Summary

Victoria Barnett has it all: a great career as a nurse practitioner, a handsome and loving husband, a beautiful home in the suburbs, and a plan to fill it with children. Life is perfect—or so it seems. Then she’s in a terrible accident...and everything falls apart. Now Victoria is unable to walk. She can’t feed or dress herself. She can’t even speak. She is confined to the top floor of her house with 24-hour care.

Sylvia Robinson is hired by Victoria’s husband to help care for her. But it turns out Victoria isn’t as impaired as Sylvia was led to believe. There’s a story Victoria desperately wants to tell...if only she could get the words out. Then Sylvia discovers Victoria’s diary hidden away in a drawer. And what’s inside is shocking.

Like a trashy novel - listened until the end though

Narrator is pretty awful and the diaries are pretty cringe listening to them . But I guess the story kept me listening until the end

Great narration

I’ve recently discovered Freidas books and I’m really enjoying them. This is my 5th book in a month and although the plots are (fairly) similar, there are always a few twists and turns to keep those pages turning. The Wife Upstairs is no exception and just when you think you’ve sussed out where the tale is going, she hits you with another whammy! The narration was in perfect pitch for the book which really adds to the enjoyment of the story.

Quite a good story but not as excited as other reviewers

I thought this was an OK story but I really had trouble listening to the voice put on for Vicky’s diary entries, at points it reminded me of a Sesame Street character. I do wonder if I would have enjoyed this story more if I’d read it. I also found it quite hard from the beginning to believe Vicky was writing a diary for her future children but would include the initial horrible things that happened - perhaps again they sounded worse due to the narration.
Parts of the book I did enjoy and I did listen to the end, it kept being interested.
