Summary

This book is the hard conversation we must have.

In 2020 we have seen clearer than ever that Black people are still fighting for the right to be judged by the content of their character and not the colour of their skin. In the words of the author, 'there is no freedom without rights and no rights without the freedom to exercise those rights.'

This book demands change, because Black people are done waiting.

In This Is Why I Resist activist and political commentator, Dr Shola Mos-Shogbamimu digs down into the deep roots of racism and anti-blackness in the UK and the US. Using real life examples from the modern day, Dr Shola shows us the different forms racism takes in our day-to-day lives and asks us to raise our voice to end the oppression. She delves into subjects not often explored such as racial gatekeepers, white ingratitude, performative allyship (those black squares on Instagram), current identity politics and abuse of the Black trans community.

Where other books take White people by the hand to help them negotiate issues of race, This Is Why I Resist offers no sugar-coated comfort, instead it challenges and asks when white will people progress on race inclusion. Black lives matter, and change is now.

It's time for a conscious revolution.

Incredible! What a powerful book read with such passion and conviction by the author

I am a black women who have experienced racism and this book is a powerful reminder why we (society) must not stay complacent in regards to systemic racism especially in Education. When we know better we do better. It has educated me out of my ignorance when it comes to explaining racism to white people. I've always wondered why as a black person I had to teach white people (sometimes friends) when they used racial terms as a joke; why it's not funny. Now I know, it is up to them to go educate themselves out of their ignorance. I am tired!

This book is excellent! I cannot even begin to imagine how many hours went into producing such a detailed and carefully thought of piece of work. A lot of research has been put into this. I highly recommend it!

Just finished listening to the audio book. The book is insightful and informative. Beautifully written and has true heart. For employers and employees alike this is something that you need to read/listen to take the teachable moments and embed them not only in the businesses, but in the individuals that work in them. Saying that this is a book for every single person who wants to learn and embrace. Off for my 2nd listen to make notes to embed both in my life and in my practice. Beautifully read as well.

This book belongs in every school in the world.

Dr Shola Mos-Shogbamimu eloquently and beautifully Dismantles White supremacy. If you are an activist for racial equity or a BLM activist, this is the book you need to arm you with the knowledge you need to take on any white supremacist. I absolutely love how Dr Mos-Shogbamimu also includes ethnic minorities, womxn rights, feminism and trans rights. Each chapter is more captivating than the other. I stayed up all night till I finished it. I can't recommend it enough!
