Summary

A TIKTOK sensation!

An unforgettable dark romantic fantasy novel about the siren with a taste for royal blood and the prince who has sworn to destroy her.

"Stellar world building and nonstop action will keep readers hooked on this twisted reimagining of 'The Little Mermaid'." - Booklist Online

Princess Lira is siren royalty and the most lethal of them all. With the hearts of seventeen princes in her collection, she is revered across the sea. Until a twist of fate forces her to kill one of her own. To punish her daughter, the Sea Queen transforms Lira into the one thing they loathe most - a human. Robbed of her song, Lira has until the winter solstice to deliver Prince Elian's heart to the Sea Queen or remain a human forever.

The ocean is the only place Prince Elian calls home, even though he is heir to the most powerful kingdom in the world. His calling? Ridding the world of the menace of the sirens. But when he rescues a drowning woman, it becomes clear that there's more to her than there first appeared.

She promises to help him find the key to destroying the sirens for good. But can he trust her?

Enjoyed it a lot more that I tought!

Both the narrators were amazing. The book is better than expected - I've never been into pirate-siren stories but this one is really good. I loved the ending!

Great but something's missing?

I really loved the story and characters but felt the end was a little rushed. I know a good book leaves you wanting more but I just didn't feel that there romance was shown enough at the end, but then again it didn't hinder the story and was a very enjoyable listen.q

Arghhhh I don’t know...

If you’re looking for a heavy romance/action you haven’t found it. It is a slow burn and the only intimacies are a few shared kisses towards the end. Which isn’t a problem unless you are looking for that. I found that the sea queen was so cliche, and just like a typical villain, speaks loads and doesn’t pose the threat that was building/promised throughout the book. She was really awesome and gritty till the end where it felt rather anticlimactic. Where she just stands there hissing and leaving opportunity in the fight. I found the battles underwhelming and really hard to visualise, especially with sea creatures being on land and settings poorly described. Although, the pairing was fun as they had great conversations that left me giggling, this book didn’t really grab me at all. It was very much a mix of Stardust/TLM/Sinbad which is an awesome mix but too obvious/PG for me.

If you are looking for another heavy read after ACOTAR, as this comes up in reccomended, this will not relieve you. I’m currently hunting for another Rhysand/Feyre power couple and that connection between the characters. Although, this book is a great adventure and I did enjoy listening to it. The double narrating was a bit hard to follow with Yakiko being cast as a sinister old voice by the male narrator and innocent by the female voice.

The extra violent version of the little mermaid.

Great read. Enjoyed this adult retelling of the little mermaid with references to Greek myths whilst creating new mythology. Could have had a better well paced ending. Felt a bit rushed.

Brilliant!

Excellent narration from both Jacob York & Stephanie Willis. Sometimes it feels hard to find one narrator who is excellent, nevermind two!
Yes the story goes where you expect it BUT the pace, delivery and presentation of the narrative couldn't be more perfect.
The world that Alexandra Christo devised is brought to life so beautifully. Although I could easily listen to more tales that build on this story, it was so nice to have a book which isn't part of a series and tied up all the loose ends in one go. I loved this story it was pure magic, imagination and adventure.

Very enjoyable and gripping

Really enjoyed the story used similar themes but in a fond and reminiscent way while taking its own spin at the same time. Would enjoy a second book but ended well and was a satisfying listen. Very happy and will listen again.

Great Ocean Experience

If you love at sea stories you will love this book, a great mix of adventure and fantasy this books plot is jam packed with action.

The narration was good and kept me listening throughout with goon tone of voice and differentiation between characters int he story.

If I could ask for one more thing from this book it would be a slightly more in depth romance but being in the YA category it is light and slow paced but still very enjoyable.

One of the best Fantasy standalone's iv had the pleasure to read in a while.
