Summary

What does "gender transition" mean? What are some of the official records transgender people may change when they're transitioning? Why is transgender equality important?

Transgender people should be treated with the same dignity and respect as anyone else and be able to live and be respected according to their gender identity.

Supporting the transgender people in your life: a guide to being a good ally

Learning to be an ally to the transgender people in your life or to transgender people overall, is an ongoing process. Some ways to be a good ally are relatively simple and easy, while others require more time, energy, and commitment. Whether you’re looking for information on supporting a transgender person in your life or looking for tools that will help you to change the world to be better for transgender people overall, this book can help.

Interacting with transgender people:

  • Use the language a transgender person uses for themselves.
  • If you don’t know what pronouns to use, ask.
  • Be careful and considerate about what other questions you ask.
  • Someone’s transgender identity is their private information to share, or not.
  • Avoid compliments or advice based on stereotypes about transgender people or about how men and women should look or act.

I think I might be transgender, now what do i do?

This book will help you!

Trans history

There have always been trans and gender-variant people throughout history. Whenever, wherever on this earth, we will find people who contravene gender boundaries. I'm not talking about the small ways of "queering" gender, such as the lesbian separatists who wore dungarees in the 1970s. I mean the big ways: not just queering gender, but crossing gender. I mean the drive that makes people risk so much to represent a gender they feel is theirs and yet is very different to the social, cultural, and legal expectations of their birth sex.

Whatever culture, country, or epoch you choose to research, you will find a history of individuals who, if they lived now, we might now refer to as trans people.

In this guide, you’ll learn:

Not what was expected

So, firstly, it's quite hard to follow because of the way it is written as well as the performance; pauses are added where they shouldn't be which makes the information hard to understand.

The content, at times, is hetero-normative (which is wild and defeating of the point of the book). I can't find any details about the author anywhere which is weird but I have a feeling the author is a straight cos man, and this is written as an almost medical history. I didn't get through much so maybe it improved but I would not recommend this book for anyone trans.

I would only recommend this for a cis, straight person who really can't be be bothered to do their own research into LGBTQ+ society and how to be an ally.
