From the internationally bestselling, prize-winning author of Landmarks, The Lost Words and The Old Ways

In Underland, Robert Macfarlane takes us on a journey into the worlds beneath our feet. From the ice-blue depths of Greenland's glaciers, to the underground networks by which trees communicate, from Bronze Age burial chambers to the rock art of remote Arctic sea-caves, this is a deep-time voyage into the planet's past and future. Global in its geography, gripping in its voice and haunting in its implications, Underland is a work of huge range and power, and a remarkable new chapter in Macfarlane's long-term exploration of landscape and the human heart.

A great listen

I saw the cover in a book shop and was drawn to it immediately but thought it looked a little to heavy for me to read on holiday or when going to bed.
About a year later I broke my arm and missing reading books joined Audible and it was my first choice to download.
I spent many hours escaping from life and the inconvenience of my arm listening to and enjoying this read.
Thank you

Sensational, beautiful and terrifying

The author manages to blend adventure and exploration with history, ecology, geology, anthropology and so much more. The poetic writing and perfect narration make this a must read.

Wonderful

Fascinating and beautifully narrated. Listened to it while I had a insomnia and horrible fever and felt transported. Thank you.

Incredible tales!

Epic wondrous tales.

Macfarlane's voice 5/5

I took my time with this book because his voice is so 👌 that I sometimes zoned out (or fell asleep - sorry!!) I mean that in the most positive way - it's pretty soothing, except with some of the more gruesome details. Excited to read / listen to more by them.

An exceptional book, beautifully narrated.

This book is a must-listen, with an outstanding narration.
It is hard to describe this book because it covers very many different elements of the entire world that is underground. It will disturb your thinking, and stay in your mind long after you read it. It is crafted with great skill. 5 stars all the way. A great read for those who like a book to bring awareness to issues you may never have thought about. Listening to this book is a literary and auditory pleasure.

Stunning

Beautiful, poetic, study of deep and mysterious places. Most memorable to me are the Arches project in Paris and the mine workings that stretch under the North Sea. The reading is fluid, expressive, beautifully executed.

Amazing book

A truly remarkable book by an outstanding author. I don’t usually read this type of book but I’m so glad I chose it. I loved it. You really feel you are with this poet cum explorer on his adventures into the remote parts of this world, above and below ground. Beautifully read too.
