Summary

Absorbing and escapist, The Villa on the Riviera is perfect summer listening for fans of Rachel Hore and Santa Montefiore.

Polly Smith is struggling to make a living as an artist when her friend and patron, Oliver, invites her to the south of France. But her world is unexpectedly turned upside down when she digs out her birth certificate to apply for a passport. Her parents are not who she believed them to be - even her name is different.

Fleeing to the Riviera, Polly finds that the serenity and sunshine brings her art to life as never before. But all is not well in the grand house. Oliver's father was forced to leave England in a cloud of scandal and his past is about to catch up with him. And Polly's own future begins to take on a new and fascinating shape....

The perfect listen for fans of The Villa and Summer's Child, this is a beguiling and evocative tale that will transport you away to the Riviera itself.

what a loss to the literary world. Sometimes in the midst of all the murder angst and msyhemyou just want a gentle story with nice people.

Good afternoon read

you can't help but be engrossed in the characters although it takes a lot to believe in the number of coincidence arriving between them.

Villa on the riviera.

Quite slow to get going, but eventually a good yarn. Well read, good voices, enjoyable.

Disappointed

I really enjoyed The Frozen Lake and the Villa in Italy but this disappointed me. The story was too simplistic and there were far too many coincidences and anomalies for the story to ring true.

delightful

I found the first couple of chapters a little slow however as the characters were introduced the story became more intriguing. I loved the descriptions of France and art. Very enjoiable and easy to listen to.

Great characters and an intriguing story

Would you listen to Villa on the Riviera again? Why?

I doubt it - it's a one off book! Charming to hear once and an interesting trip into both illegal art practises and the French Riviera.

Who was your favorite character and why?

I think my favourite characters were the lesbian artists...

Have you listened to any of Nicolette McKenzie’s other performances? How does this one compare?

First time

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

I don't have that amoun of time!!

Deliciously thirties , could be a good film

Very enjoyable , a bit of sleuthing, but of romance and some lovely visual descriptions of the south of France . I can imagine this as a gentle tv film on a wet winter Sunday afternoon .

Excellent

Loved the storyline, which wove together wonderfully. The author's description of both the personalities and their surroundings were charming., plus the narration too was excellent. Highly recommend.
