Summary

Detective Anna Travis is tasked with reviewing an open-and-shut case when a young man, awaiting trial for robbery, casts doubt on the ruling. A nightclub owner was found dead from a single bullet wound to the head, with the gun held in his hand. It was determined to be suicide, but the young man claims it was murder.

Once she wraps up the investigation, Anna's boss promises her a place at the FBI Academy, but the arrival of a senior agent soon ruffles feathers in the team. What should have been a simple case of tying up loose ends becomes a political nightmare and Anna is forced to decide where her loyalties lie.

Gutted this is the last book but hope there’s more

My heart just breaks for Anna ..
I had hoped if this was the last book in the series that it would be Anna leaving the UK to become part of the FBI..
I had so wanted Anna to get back with Langton , but thought maybe she could find new happiness in the USA if not back to Langton ..
But saying that , how the book ends , it gives me hope there will be more of Detective Inspector Anna Travis to come

Totally brilliant series and fantastic narration. Highly recommend

Good Listen!

As usual incredibly well written, very well read and full of information and interesting facts that help to make it so good.
Anna Travis becomes a real person you feel you know as you work you way though the books and see her change and grow.

Excellent read, what an intriguing story

Love it. One of best Lynda la Plante books in my opinion. Also the narrator is simply the best. Recommended!

Brilliant

Loved this series of Anna Travis. Narration is absolutely superb, in my humble opinion. Loved this book immensely and had trouble putting it down.

Oh dear.

Honestly? Anna goes to the Quantico and solves a cold case in less than 24 hours? Meanwhile The Met case stagnates in her absence. Not to mention Langton.
A big letdown

So utterly tedious

Having enjoyed quite of few of La Plantes offerings (Trial and Retribution/ Prime Suspect) I am often tempted to listen to more but this one is just dire. Little action, mountains of superfluous dialogue and I really do not know why or how I managed to get through so many boring chapters ...... but I did, and what a waste of my time it was. Come on Linda, you can do much better than this or give up and rest on your laurels.

Very enjoyable

I have enjoyed reading this author’s books for many years. This one is a great listen; very complex plot, well worked through.
