The power of motherhood?
Beautifully written to encompass the glory and the pain of a pregnancy, wanted but not by the biological father, and then the pain and the wonder of the birth of a baby - her son. Interesting cultural issues are covered in sensitive way that do not detract from the narrative. I loved it.

So eloquently expressing universal connection.
Zikora's personal characteristics highlighted how relatable she was as a human, regardless of clear differences. I really enjoyed meeting her and sharing the intimate journey through her experience.

Great (audio) book
I loved listening to this. As a British native of Nigeria, it made me reminisce of my childhood and I was able relate to the story line; not because I have experienced it, but because I know that the storyline is one that exists within the culture. it also made me homesick 😢. Although the orator is of yoruba origins (I think) and it was obvious to me when she tried to say certain things in Igbo, I loved that the she stuck to the Nigerian accent which is fabulous to hear.

Great story and narration. Lived it.
She is so careful with her words and sentence structure. so much said in so few words. Many unanswered questions but that is part of the joy of it. Just brilliant. I so badly wanted to enter the room with them at the end. Her mother's tenderness towards the baby and also her daughter was very moving and evocative. She is a master of her art.
