    Aug 27 2024

TeaFlix Interview with John McEuen (Nitty Gritty Dirt Band)
Hosted by Dr. Angie McCartney & Ruth McCartney

John was born in Oakland, CA in 1945, moved to southern California’s Orange County with his family for high school years. He and lifelong high-school friend Steve Martin both got a job in 1963 (in the magic shop) at 16! When, a couple years later, he saw Missouri bluegrass group The Dillards in an Orange County club, John’s life then headed towards his new dream: “be a traveling music man”. Leaving his Garden Grove spawning ground, his dream became more of a reality than imagined it could be! Multi-instrumentalist McEuen (banjo, guitar, mandolin, fiddle) has been recognized as a founding member and award-winning outstanding performer of the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band. He departed at the end of the 50th year anniversary tour Oct. 22, 2017 due to demands for his solo work and the desire to do things new. In addition to John’s numerous solo accolades, NGDB was inducted in to Colorado Music Hall of Fame 2015. It is all covered in his book The Life I’ve Picked on Chicago Review Press, published April, 2018. In 1971 John initiated the now landmark Will the Circle be Unbroken* album, hooking Nitty Gritty Dirt Band up with his musical mentors Earl Scruggs and Doc Watson simply by asking them in Colorado (brother Bill then asked Merle Travis, and it started growing) to record; it grew to inviting Mother Maybelle Carter, Jimmy Martin, Roy Acuff, ‘Bashful’ Brother Oswald, Merle Travis, Vassar Clements, and Junior Huskey, for 5 magic hot August days of recording. The now multi-platinum “Circle” is in both the Library of Congress and the Grammy Hall of Fame. * “One of the most important records to come out of Nashville…” Chet Flippo Rolling Stone He closed ep. 6 (called Will the Circle be Unbroken) of PBS’a Ken Burns Country Music, appearing in 3 other episodes. Radio Host, author, television show producer, writer, concert promoter, multi-instrumental musician, performer, magician, John McEuen continues to explore the music world! John’s second book – Will the Circle Be Unbroken – 50th anniversary Year – The Making of a Landmark Album Captures 145 of his brother’s (record producer/manager) ‘masterpiece’ photos, with the stories behind each one. McEuen has made over 46 albums (7 solo) that have earned four platinum and five gold records, multiple Grammy Awards and nominations, CMA and ACM awards, an Emmy film score nomination, IBMA record of the year award, and performed on another 25 albums as guest artist. John’s production of Steve Martin – The Crow won the 2010 Best Bluegrass Album Grammy. The Music of the Wild West CD- produced by McEuen, was honored with the Western Heritage Award. Other accolades include: Grammy nomination for String Wizards II, the Uncle Dave Macon Award (for excellence in preservation and performance of historic music); 2009 he was inducted in to the Traditional Country Music Hall of Honor. As a producer/composer of film scores, solo albums, John has produced award-winning projects of his own and for several other artists. John has continually performed since 1963 – doing over 11,000 concerts, 300 television shows, 10,000 interviews and flown more than 4 million miles. In 2010 John was honored with the Best in the West solo performer award from the Folk Alliance Organization. McEuen’s rich history of creating, producing and preserving original and traditional folk music earned him the 2013 Charlie Poole Lifetime Achievement Award. John is excited about his new album coming out on Compass Records summer of this year. No title yet! Made in Brooklyn. –

Join Angie and Ruth #McCartney at https://fb.com/DrAngieMcCartney AT A SPECIAL TIME OF NOON PACIFIC THIS WEEK ONLY as they get founding member and drummer of #FOGHAT to #spillthetea about this legendary band's 5+ decade career, and their latest #BillboardChart smash contemporary blues hit #SonicMojo which is Grammy® eligible for 2025! Foghat continues to captivate fans of all ages with their timeless music. The band is still touring relentlessly, performing with an energy that radiates youthful exuberance, regardless of age. Founding member and drummer Roger Earl reflects on their enduring appeal: “We had a terrific time making this record. Six original tracks and six of some of our favorite songs by other artists. It’s interesting to note that our first album in 1972 featured a Willie Dixon song, ‘I Just Want to Make Love to You,’ and a Chuck Berry song, ‘Maybellene.’ This record includes songs from both of these legendary writers! Apparently, our musical tastes haven’t changed much!” Their latest album, "Sonic Mojo," released on November 10, 2023, holds special meaning for Earl. Three tracks were co-written with Kim Simmonds, who gave Earl his first break in 1967 as a member of Savoy Brown. Tragically, Simmonds passed away shortly after writing these songs. The album has been incredibly well-received by fans and critics alike, serving as a fitting tribute to a band that has stood the test of time for over 50 years. • TeaFlix Interview with Filmmakers (Wise Women)
    Aug 6 2024

TeaFlix Interview with Filmmakers Christopher Henze, Dominique Debroux and Jonathan Sanger Hosted by Dr. Angie McCartney & Ruth McCartney Filmmakers Christopher Henze, Dominique Debroux and Oscar® winning producer Jonathan Sanger ("Elephant Man, Vanilla Sky, Frances and more) when they'll discuss their new documentary "WISE WOMEN" and how it reveals the mystery of menopause and the importance of women in our society. The subject of menopause, once sidelined to the realms of whispers and shame has recently been elevated into the mainstream by personalities like Oprah, Michelle Obama, Halle Berry, Naomi Watts and Gwyneth Paltrow. They, along with many others, are aware of the giant void of quality information about this incredibly confusing and important time. A new documentary takes a fresh look at early human development and finds a new interpretation to menopause that results in The Wise Woman Hypothesis. One conclusion is that, for early humans, conditions favored groups who excelled in the complexity of family and group social management. and had a greater influence of mature post-reproductive females in that management. When the filmmaker’s Co-producer and wife started going into perimenopause, beyond the physical symptoms of hot flashes, body changes, sleep issues, and brain fog, she felt a dread that much in her life was over. She initially researched supplements, HRT (Hormone Replacement Therapy) or treatments that might help her feel better. But none of those things would solve the general societal message that her usefulness was largely done. This new documentary, Wise Women, dives into something fundamental that will change evolutionary science and elevate our understanding of how we became modern humans. It answers why menopause exists and shows evolutionary proof that women, especially mature women, are best equipped to run the world. It connects the dots of how mastering fire and cooking changed the trajectory of early hominins from other primates, and how the adaptation of menopause supercharged that trajectory. Currently the most heralded answer to the existence of menopause in humans is the Grandmother Hypothesis which looks at the effect of post-menopausal woman on birth-frequency, infant brain development and other notable ideas. “We see the Grandmother Hypothesis as a reinforcing concept, rather than an initiating one.” Says director Christopher Henze. “We ask, how did our brains get to be large enough to even make use of the beneficial effects of grandmothers?” Menopause first affected our evolution then allowing “grandmothering” to accelerate it. Additionally, Crone – The Wise Woman Hypothesis shows that, because post-menopausal women were so important to our survival and development, they were venerated. Most pre-historic art that has been found depicts women.

TeaFlix Interview with Denny Tedesco (Filmmaker)

Denny Tedesco, Director 'The Immediate Family' Denny Tedesco grew up in Los Angeles. He started as a set decorator on feature films such as "Eating Raoul" and then went on to working on films, commercials and music videos during the MTV Years as a grip. In 1984-1990, Denny began to travel the world as a lighting technician and location producer for IMAX films. From the shark-infested waters of Australia to the plains of Africa, he has filmed under the most challenging conditions. He was sent as a location producer to cover the eruption of Mt. Pinatubo as well as the catastrophic earthquake of Kobe, Japan. During the 1990s and 2000s, Denny worked as a freelance producer and director and conducted interviews for A&E, TV-Land, and was a producer on Comedy Central's Pulp Comics. Most notably in 2000, he produced the Academy Awards "opening" staring Billy Crystal and also the award-winning music video for Elton John's song, "I Want Love" starring Robert Downey Jr. "This film is a window into the lives of my musical brothers, whose gold standard is to make sure that every song they play on comes out even better than the songwriter imagined. Now they're doing that for their own songs, and this film tells their story beautifully." - Carole King "A wonderful and fascinating encomium to the unsung heroes of the music of the 70s and so much more. I was thrilled to watch my favourite musicians (and dearest friends) celebrated for their musical brilliance, their prodigious influence and creativity - and for how much fun we all had (and, by the way, continue to have!)". - Peter Asher "Waddy and I sometimes, I think we're the same person, except from California and New York, because we are like two sides of a coin and that's why we have been working together for so long I think. Because I would never want anybody else to be my musical director, or my lead guitarist, because Waddy makes me feel safe and always has in any situation, no matter how frightening the situation, as long as he's standing next to me, I know I'm safe." - Stevie Nicks "One of the things about the comradery was the knowledge of what it's like to make music together and to collaborate. on something like that. Like put down a tune and everybody work together as a sort of team or a community on this tune. It's a bond, it's such a special thing to be able to do. "The creative input of these session guys cannot be overstated. It can't be overstated. I mean it just can't be overstated." -- James Taylor https://www.immediatefamilyfilm.com
