Joshua Slocum trick

I very much enjoy the podcasts and find the psychology aspects that have been discussed ie the type of person you’d like to have on a boat on a long trip. It does take some guts to stand up to people who don’t act appropriately on boats. I myself have some very interesting stories. A ex navy sailor who has Ocean Master onboard my 22 ft yacht who turned out to be an alcoholic and womaniser. A woman who is a very accomplished sailor and a yachtmaster who had borderline personality disorder and told me she had stopped taking her meds and her outbursts led me to ask her to leave. There are many more. So I found that episode very useful and would like to hear more of how best to decipher who is a good crew member before they actually come aboard. I listened to a couple of very interesting podcasts that Nicky Henderson discussed how she struggled with security and crew on board a boat and taking charge. I think as a woman and a young woman it is difficult to assert yourself and even to believe in what you’re take on things are. As a young female sailor I have always found that in the past dealing with strong males to be difficult.

Ps I hear from your podcast the Slocum trick of wearing different hats and bobbing up out of hatches when under a track to give the impression of more people on board. I bet over the years since Slocum I wonder if the attackers have become wise to that trick. I bet that and the tacks are a well used deterrent.
