About this listen
In the mystical realm of Enchancia, Henry LeFay, the heir to the Fairy Kingdom, struggles with his predetermined destiny under his father's expectations. Despite his lineage, Henry's heart veers toward unconventional pursuits, concealed from the royal gaze. Amidst the rigors of Excalibur Academy, Henry's clandestine romance with Irvine sparks betrayal and peril as his forbidden truth is unveiled. Facing a death sentence, Henry finds an unexpected ally in Queen Azzurra, redirecting his path to Gamaken Kuronuma, a cursed soul seeking redemption from the Goblin King.
Gamaken, trapped in the guise of the Frog Prince, seeks true love's kiss to break the curse. Henry, now a guardian spirit, joins him on a quest fraught with trials, testing their bond and Henry's burgeoning feelings. As Henry grapples with unrequited love and the looming threat of hanahaki disease, he navigates alongside cursed companions, each bearing their own burdens.
With time running short, Henry embarks on a perilous journey to obtain an ancient spell book, his only hope for a cure. Amidst battles with external foes and inner demons, Henry confronts his deepest desires and fears, risking everything to reveal his heart to Gamaken. The fate of Enchancia hinges on their quest as Henry's journey of self-discovery intertwines with the magic shaping their extraordinary world. Will Henry break the curse, conquer the Demon King, and find the courage to embrace his truth?

Enjoyed
This is a story I had read and enjoyed previously. I have read all the books in the series, but there is a recap for those who don''t. The series is well written and provides a welcome relief from reality. The narrator took a while to get into, but when I did, I really enjoyed the range of voices he used.

Enjoyed Part One of this Yaoi story!
To the great disappointment of his royal father, Crown Prince to the throne of Enchancia, Henry LeFay, prefers men to women and starts a clandestine relationship with one of his academy classmates. When his relationship is discovered, he is banished and ends up as a guardian spirit to Gamaken, the cursed Frog Prince, and his two female companions, helping them through many adventures. Henry is afflicted with a deadly disease that can only be cured by true love and while Henry is attracted to Gamaken, Gamaken seems to be only attracted to women and time is running out.
This was my first Yaoi story so I didn’t know what to expect. I read up on the genre after finishing the book and this seems fairly typical. Usually Yaoi involves a more forceful ‘seme’ (attacker) and a more beautiful, vulnerable, feminine, and submissive ‘uke’ (receiver). Here, Henry plays the uke role with different partners and while consensual, the couplings are more forceful than most m/m romances. The scenes prior to banishment were hugely compelling and I mostly enjoyed them. After banishment, the plot jumps 16 years and covers a lot of ground, which we are told in a very short time. Once the story reaches Gamaken’s current quest, the scenes are once again compelling. This is only Part One of the journey, the book doesn’t resolve here so be prepared for that. 🎧 I received a ARC of the audiobook and chose to leave an honest review. I quite enjoyed LaMont Ridgell’s audio narration.
