About this listen
One contract.
One billionaire.
Charming. Devastatingly handsome. Ridiculously rich. Kristoff Baldwin came without warning. He made me an offer I couldn’t refuse, and before I could even realize the impact he was making, I was too far gone, despite knowing the consequences of falling.
A future together was the impossible dream. My past haunted me and even he had ghosts of his own.
Then everything changed when his past came after me and my daughters.
There are disguised blessings in every tragedy. Although I can’t help but wonder if my tragedy is about to destroy a once in a lifetime chance at love.

boss
Amazing dual narration from Troy Duran and MacKenzie Cartwright
Kristoff is a boss and man who likes his own way. Controlling and demanding is the best way to describe him. Looking for an assistant for in and out of the office. Out of office they would be an assistant with benefits, who is generously compensated, for a no strings relationship. Gemma, a newly single mom of three girls, needing a jo, interviews for the position. Even though she is over qualified. Gemma is very surprised that she is asked to come back for a second interview. As she declined the job, after learning what was required, but Kristoff was not giving up on her and was willing to compromise and make an exception.
Both characters, are battling demons. Gemma has a secret that she does not want to come out because it may cost her children. We have drama, angst, heartfelt emotions, and steamy

Passionate & Intense!
The Exception is a mafia second chance romance and a fantastic start to the Billioner Kings series. This extended prologue constructs a solid foundation for the entire series. Aside from an excellent storyline and the characters' development, Eva Winners takes the audience on an indepth journey as the characters evolve. I can't wait to see the ripple effect of the events through the series. The book is longer than expected; however, the pace is a smooth flow that I didn't realize time going by. I seriously, I couldn't stop listening. Kristoff and Gemma's journey is stormy, ardent, hot, and filled with ups and downs. Their chemistry is intense and explosive; you can feel the tension and force behind their connection.
Troy Duran and Mackenzie Cartwright are my all-time favourite narrators. They genuinely do justice to an author's written words and the characters. They each utilize years of experience in their work. It was an absolute pleasure listening to both bringing Kristoff and Gemma's emotionally turbulent, passionate, and captivating love story to life.
The Exception, the prologue to the Billionaire Kings Series, is an audiobook I highly recommend!

Kristoff & Gemma!
I love Eva Winners, but I have to say, when I say the length of this audio, I hesitated. I thought, will it entertain me the entire time? I started, and within the first chapter I was hooked, and every minute I could, I had my ear buds in and on, lost in Kristoff and Gemma's story. Gemma is a single mom with a secret. Living on her last dime, she is desperate for a job. Kristoff is a billionaire, looking for an administrative assistant with benefits. The attraction is immediate but Gemma isn't quite sure this is for her, until he blackmails her with the secret she thought no one knew and they agree upon a trial period to see how it goes. As they start their relationship of sorts, her problem of becoming attached begins. But what she doesn't realize is Kristoff is enjoying his time with her and her girls too. But when their trial gets close to the end, Kristoff's walls go back up and he does anything and everything to close her out. How does it end? Secrets, explosive chemistry, trust issues, family times, crazy ex's, and soul mates all play a part in this fantastic start to the Billionaire Kings series, and I cannot wait to hear more!
In duet narration, Troy Duran and Mackenzie Cartwright bring it all to life. These two are some of my favorites, and they have a chemistry when they narrate together that brings out all the emotions, all the frustrations and all the fun. Fantastic secondary characters, lots of action and the feelings all come alive with there performance and I could not get enough. It's a fantastic listen!

Great listen, narrators were so good
This book was highly addictive. There are some lulls but not so much to really impact your experience. The narrators did a great job fleshing out the characters and giving them some dimension.

Immersive story.
Troy Duran and Mackenzie Cartwright tell this long and lovely story, in duet narration, and they are excellent. They maintain the flow of the story, pulling you into the main characters, Gemma and Kristoff. The audio is long, so be prepared, but rewards you with a timeline allowing you to really get to know the leads and the other chaaround them. Of partnote are Gemma's three beautiful girls.
Both Gemma and Kristoff are leary of relationships for very different reasons, but through a slow courtship, some hot encounters and building of trust, they enter into something which is, for them, new and special. An audio to sit back and enjoy. 💖💖💖💖

FIERY PASSION!
I loved Kristoff and Gemma, they were unconventional and definitely the exceptions and it was so refreshing.
I loved that she was a mom and not the "usual" female mc that most authors write. I loved Kristoff's broody self and I loved all the angst and excitement in this book. It was so good!
This had me on the edge of my seat throughout the whole story! I was so captivated!
Troy Duran and MacKenzie Cartwright did a fantastic job!

My Thoughts on The Exception
This was a very good introduction to a new to me author. After listening to this first book, I wouldn’t hesitate to check out another. I thought that the author had good character development, which is one of the most important elements for me. I liked the strength of character shown by both leads, but especially the leading lady. While there were certain things she may have seen as a weakness in herself, I could see the reasons why she put up with certain things for so long, and I could see the strength it took for her to endure what she did and finally take action to get out.
And of course, it made me love the leading man even more for seeing the amazing woman she was right from the start. This was definitely a case of him falling first, and I was here for it. He pursued her pretty much obsessively and tried to provide for and protect her every opportunity he got. He was great with her children, and even though he was often very much over the top, with the fact that we could see inside his head and knew where he was coming from you knew that it was all from a place of love.
The journey that these characters took was very emotional, but a good one. The only thing I found myself wishing at times was that it was a bit shorter. I kind of wish the drama could have been nipped in the bud a little bit sooner. I do also personally feel like the secret Gemma was keeping was made into a bit of a bigger deal when all the facts were laid out. But that’s just my opinion. Again, once all is said and done, I very much enjoyed the story, and I wouldn’t hesitate to read another from this author.
The narrators also both did fantastic jobs. I loved that this was told in duet narration, although there were some moments when it seems that for some reason, the female narrator would speak the male parts and I didn’t quite know why, but it only happens every now and then. When they performed overall though I enjoyed it.

wonderful
Kristoff is relentless in his pursuit of Gemma and while his ways are questionable at best at times he has her and her daughters best interests at heart. I love how he loves her and how he so easily loves her kids, Wonderful story, Add to the TBR list for sure!
