فيودور دوستويفسكي، روائي وكاتب قصص قصيرة وصحفي وفيلسوف روسي، وهو أحد أشهر الكتاب في العالم. وفي كتابه الرسائل الذي ترجمه خيري الضامن للعربية، يضم الكتاب بمجلديه أكثر من ٢٥٠ رسالة، تتناول جميع مراحل حياة الكاتب، أولها أرسلها إلى أمه وهو في الثانية عشرة من وآخرها أملاها على زوجته وهو على سرير الموت.

كتابٌ تضمّن مجموعةً من الرّسائل التي تركها المفكّر العربي أحمد أمين لولده، قدّم فيه النّصح، مستندًا على خبرته ونتائج تجاربه في الحياة، مع النّظر إلى البَون الشّاسع بين معطيات جيله وجيل الأبناء، رغم أن بعض القيم لا تتغيّر مع تغيّر الأزمان كـ الحقّ والعدل والصّدق.

One of France's greatest writers, Voltaire was frequently persecuted for his ideas and as a result, spent time in the famed Bastille. He fled his native land for England in 1726, at which time he witnessed the differences between the two countries. His celebrated Letters on England was first published in that nation in 1733 and contained 24 succinct letters on subjects ranging from religion and politics, to trade, the arts, philosophy, and science.

This very clever and highly-polished epistle to Dr Arbuthnot (also entitled the "Prologue to the Satires"), who was suffering from terminal illness, dates from 1734. Arbuthnot, from his deathbed, solemnly advised Pope to moderate his satire and expressed fear about the poet's personal safety from his numerous foes. Pope replied in a manly but self-defensive style. He is said at this time to have in his walks carried arms, and taken a large dog as a protector, but none of the purported enemies ever had the courage to attack him.

Throughout his life, the poet Rainer Maria Rilke addressed letters to individuals who were close to him, who had contacted him after reading his works, or who he had met briefly – anyone with whom he felt an inner connection. Within his vast correspondence, there are about two dozen letters of condolence. In these direct, personal and practical letters, Rilke writes about loss and mortality, assuming the role of a sensitive, serious and uplifting guide through life’s difficulties.
