私は、日本の大学や学問のあり方について、強迫観念にとりつかれたようにたっ た一つのことを言い続けている。 それは、国内の学問、特に文系の学問のあり方が、「輸入学問」になってしまっており、明治以来の、西洋の学問を自らの「お墨付き」の起源に使うというやり方が、もう限界に来ているということ。 自然科学者は、それでも、英語で論文を書くのが当たり前だから、それぞれの実力の範囲でがんばっている。それに対して、文系の学問は、日本語という言語に依存しているので、単純な比較はできない、という議論はわかる。 実際、日本文学の研究を、英語でやるのはナンセンスとまで言わなくても「遠い」だろう。また、日本の中の社会事象を扱う「社会学」においても、日本語を使うことが必要、ということはわかる。「いじめ」や「引きこもり」、「甘え」といった日本の社会の事象を、英語で表現したのでは、距離が遠ざかり、内容が薄まる。(本文より） 茂木健一郎の「樹下の微睡み」はこちらから→http://yakan-hiko.com/mogi.html
