About this listen
Jesse James has learned never to rely on the men in her life. When the going gets tough, they're sure to leave. Just like the grandfather she never knew. But now her grandfather is back--if the man who knocked on her door is who he claims to be.
He's a down-and-out conman, a liar, and a thief, but he needs Jesse's help. "Gramps" has swindled a dangerous man and is in hiding for his life. Against her better judgment, Jesse allows herself to get involved. But once the man who claims to be her relative is safe, Jesse herself becomes the target of a vicious, cold-blooded rage …

Interesting mystery
I happened to read books 3, 4 & 5 of this series in the wrong order, i.e. 5 then 4 then 3. So it took me a while to sort out who was who and what their relationships were, so I would definitely recommend listening to/reading these books in order, preferably starting at book 1.
Once I got into it it was a fun read about a young woman who lives largely by her wits, working as a freelance reporter and has a 'new age mobster' for a boyfriend, who seems to be both in and out of the mafia organisation, I found this rather confusing.
An unexpected visit from Jesse's grandfather, who she hasn't seen for decades and seems to be a conman, draws Jesse into an exciting adventure when she tries to rescue her grandfather from a vindictive ex-cop who seems to be missing $70,000 and his wife.
Generally well written, although as I say confusing at first if you aren't familiar with the characters. The narration is well done and the variety of voices is good, although do think that sometimes the wrong voice is used for the character and sometimes two characters seem to have the same voice.
