Summary

The sights, smells and sounds of a long-ago Christmas come to life in Dylan Thomas's reading of his classic tale. His wonderful recollection of a holiday in the seaside town of his youth is captured in a vivid performance; you'll want to make it part of your family's holiday tradition. This now-remastered collection also includes some of Thomas's most celebrated poems, including "Do Not Go Gentle into That Good Night."

A Great Little Stocking Filler!

Another book group choice, this time for our Christmas discussion with afternoon tea by a huge log fire in a country hotel. No one reads Dylan Thomas better than the man himself and here he is reminiscing his own childhood Christmas in his Wales homeland. People of a certain age will find plenty to smile about and identify with, wherever they grew up. Nice and short, it is possible to suffer from Dylan Thomas overload but not here. There follows more of his poems including what is perhaps his best known, and in my opinion, finest delivery - Do Not Go Gentle into That Good Night.

Stunning, heartfelt.

It is so wonderful that the original recording can still be enjoyed today. Great to hear Thomas' words read in his voice.

A reading for all your christmas's

This wonderful reading by Dylan Thomas brings back all the images of a welsh christmas. The images of a lost world that is still reflected in the christmas of today.

Wonderful writing - unexpected delivery!

The writing of course is marvellous. I had never heard Dylan Thomas’s voice before and was surprised that there is hardly any evidence of a Welsh accent. The delivery, to a modern ear at least, is very grandiose and somewhat melodramatic. To be honest, although it feels silly to say, I would have preferred another narrator.

My childhood Christmases

I recognise so much of my own childhood Christmases in this poem that it seems uncannily my recollections and not those of Dylan who Thomas.
