Story
The kingdom of Cornucopia was once the happiest in the world. It had plenty of gold, a king with the finest moustache you could possibly imagine, and butchers, bakers, and cheesemongers whose exquisite foods made a person dance with delight when they ate them. Everything was perfect - except for the misty Marshlands to the north, which, according to legend, were home to the monstrous Ickabog. Anyone sensible knew that the Ickabog was just a myth to scare children into behaving. But the funny thing about myths is that sometimes they take on a life of their own.

Summary
Audible Studios presents a brand new recording of Charles Dickens' timeless seasonal story A Christmas Carol, performed by Hugh Grant.
First published in 1843, it tells the story of Ebenezer Scrooge, a mean and unpleasant man who dislikes people generally and Christmas especially.
One Christmas Eve he is visited by the ghost of his former business partner Jacob Marley and the spirits of Christmas Past, Present and Yet to Come and given a glimpse of the many homes and lives which Scrooge has touched in his wretched life to date. After their visits, Scrooge is transformed into a kinder, gentler man.

About the narrator
Emmy® nominee, and Golden Globe and BAFTA Award winning actor Hugh Grant has starred in 40 films and a host of TV shows in a career that spans more than three decades. Recently seen in HBO’s hit limited series The Undoing, starring opposite Nicole Kidman, other recent credits include Guy Ritchie’s The Gentlemen (2020) and appearing as Phoenix Buchanan in the box office sensation, Paddington 2 (2018). Grant starred in the Stephen Frears directed drama A Very English Scandal, which garnered him strong critical acclaim, while in 2012 he starred in the ambitious drama Cloud Atlas, from directors Lana Wachowski, Tom Tykwer and Andy Wachowski, playing multiple roles throughout the film.
In 1994 Grant won a Golden Globe Award and a BAFTA for his performance in Mike Newell’s Four Weddings and a Funeral, and was nominated for Golden Globes for his performances in Roger Michell’s Notting Hill (1999) and Chris Weitz’s About A Boy (2002). In addition to his Golden Globe and BAFTA honours, Grant has also received the Peter Sellers Award for Comedy, Best Actor at the Venice Film Festival, and an Honorary César Award.

Just delightful. Perfect.
i think I have all of the "Christmas Carol"s from Audible, and enjoy them immensely. This, however, is the best. It is perfect. It's Charles Dickens as Charles Dickens would have read it, I'm sure.
I would now like Audible to engage Hugh Grant to read the rest of the Dickens canon. Seriously.

An excellent tail let down by a Poor narration
I came across this free gift whilst browsing the audible bestseller lists. I love a Christmas Carol, it’s sheer magnificence, power and emotive force keeps me coming back to read every year so when I came across yet another recording, I was excited as I own several. First, the recording appears to be very short and I know why, Hugh Grant reads the book as if he needs to get as much said in the shortest possible time. This does not leave any scope for him to use his undeniable voice acting talent to give the book the emotive force and the characters their individual voices. It feels to me as if he is just reading the book and rushing through the story, paying little attention to the undeniable Roth of Jacob Marley, the tenderness of Christmas past, the merriness of Christmas present and the bleakness of Christmas yet to come. I was fortunate enough to download the Tim Curry presentation audible released in 2009 and this version falls a long way short of that standard. By all means collect this as a freebie however there are better performances out there for discerning listeners of this undeniable classic.

HUGH GRANT MADE THIS FANTASTIC!
I have read or heard the Christmas carol so many times I don't believe I could count them. Patrick Stewart did a stellar job, and so have many other really talented narrator's but I have to say, Hugh Grant made this story human and touchable and so uplifting and so much fun to listen to that from now on, he is my favorite bringer of Dickens at Christmas!

Hugh Grant provides a masterful performance of this Christmas classic. No matter how many times and how many film/TV versions you have seen, there are humorous and moving nuances to the written text that do not come through in even the finest productions.
