past, present, future saving Moriarty?

Of course not! They do their jobs as best they can but a man like Moriarty doesn't need saving, he's perfectly content as he is, it others who interfere that bother him. But it's Christmas, the season of perpetual hope, and of meloncoley, so Moriarty is more contemplative about his next actions with regards to his plans and his empire.

I really enjoyed this book, it had the feel of a classic Sherlock Holmes story, but from the point of view of the villain of the series. The characters were well presented, Moriarty's intelligence, the fear he can strike in others (even ghosts are unnerved by him) but it also gives him a very human side, he cares about the few he thinks of as friends as shown in his genuine appreciation of the generals acceptance to dine with him at Christmas.
