About this listen
When a single moment of senseless violence derails a family's life.
A true and touching story of love, unimaginable struggles, and faith following the terrorist attack on the US Embassy in Nairobi, Kenya.
Yasemin, a young Muslim Turkish girl, falls in love with a handsome American named Frank in Ankara, Turkey. They get married and have two beautiful children. It is the perfect life: a wonderful family, good friends, security, and meaningful jobs with the US State Department.
Soon, Frank is transferred to the US Embassy in Nairobi, Kenya, and Yasemin and the kids join him there. Yasemin can sense that her lifelong dreams are finally within reach. External forces, however, are set in motion to derail her plans when terrorists bomb the American Embassy on August 7, 1998, while she and her husband are inside. Two hundred and thirteen people are killed, and Frank is critically injured. Holding on for dear life, he is flown to Germany for hospitalization. Yasemin follows with her family, physically unharmed but severely suffering from the effects of PTSD. It is then that she is confirmed pregnant with their third child with Frank on death’s doorstep.
What follows is a tale of grief and struggle, but also of tremendous joy. From her diagnosis and struggles with PTSD treatments to Frank’s physical therapy and abandonment by the State Department, Yasemin’s story winds between betrayal and renewal as she searches for meaning in her new circumstances and ultimately turns to God.
A true life story that no one should experience but that everyone should know about.
