Summary

A Warhammer Age of Sigmar audiobook.

War makes for strange alliances - and so it is for the free city of the Colonnade, which must turn to the Mother of Nightmares and her dynasty of monsters to defend themselves against the hordes of Chaos....

Listen to it because: get an insight into one of the newest threats to the Mortal Realms - the monstrous vampire queen Lauka Vai and her dynasty of terrifying, bloodthirsty killers.

The story: the Colonnade, a free city held aloft by gargantuan pillars and crowned with a spire of diamonds, is the jewel of Ghur, obsessed with purity in a realm of bestial savagery. But now, it faces annihilation at the hands of an unstoppable beastherd. In a desperate gamble, Councillor Atella Reigehren requests the aid of a being anathema to the Colonnade. She seeks Lauka Vai, the Mother of Nightmares, and her dynasty of monsters, the Avengorii. The crucible of war has thrown these factions together, but can they put their differences aside to face this common foe, or will the clash of purity and monstrosity be their undoing?

Written by David Annandale. Narrated by Christopher Kent. Running time 9 hours 34 minutes.

slow burning horror

so in the beginning we have a story more akin to Brandon Sanderson but as things progress wr move into an altogether different story... which i will not spoil anymore than to say you need to to patient for rain is coming and its not the H2o variety

Great performances not a very gripping story

It's hard to care about the outcome of this novel as the vast majority of characters are unlikeable. The actor gives a fantastic performance but for me the story falls flat. I feel there are no major stakes in this story as its just another city in the seemingly endless expanse.

An AOS hidden gem!

Another really solid vampire based book, set in the AOS world. It has an interesting g avaried setting, one which adds even more flavor to the vast number of cities dedicated to sigmar in the AOS, as well as fleshing out (excuse the pun) the monstrous new vampires. The characters are interesting and varied, we get a lot from the vampires and we really get a feeling of what sets the Avengori and Lauka Vai apart from others vampires in this setting. The story is good, not amazing, but definitely enough to keep your headphones in. There is enough tension to keep you wondering where it will go. Performance wise it is solid, a good mix of voices and solid pronoucaition and emphasis, as good as anything the narrators of the 40k and 30k novels have been putting out there.

I feel its in these faction books, in the background and subplots that GW have made this universe full and fulfilling.

Definitely worth a listen!

A fantastic, macabre intrigue

Christopher's narration really raised an already marvellous plot that plays with the good/evil perception!

hard to stop listening to it.

exceptional book to listen to, very interesting to get both sides of the coin, the characters are well written and the story flows well. long have I been awaiting a vampire book that lives up to the vampire wars trilogy of the old world and if this is the start of more from this breed of vampire, I'm in this was 10 out of 10 from start to end.

A must listen for Soulblight Gravelord Fans

Honestly for me this book was 10/10.
An insightful look into the interactions between Order and Death.
Does an excellent job of grounding the avengori so you can really understand their point of view.

Missed opportunity

Characters, perfomance etc are all great though in terms of story I think there's a missed opportunity. There's a thought-provoking discussion you could have about nature of vengeance, perception and influence. I think the book does this well throught but falls at the last hurdle, abandoning the objectivity present in the rest of the story. The outcome didn't need to change, but I'd like to have seen some in-story discussion about choices made.

Power by Description

Out of the few Warhammer audiobooks I've listened to so far this has to be my favourite, the story is enticing and well written, the world building sets beautiful pictures of the landscapes the story is based in, the descriptive power when talking of the characters surprised me in a good way, the narrator did a splendid job adding colour to characters through his ideas of the characters and land set before him and best of all it made me want to start an Avengorii Army.
