About this listen

A Matter of Policy is an enthralling listen that begins when a young friend of Amy Brewster finds his life in jeopardy when an unknown mastermind insures it for one million dollars. When a private detective hired to protect the young man is the first victim, Amy Brewster must think fast and act faster if she is to learn who is behind the plot on the young man’s life in time to save him.

Is it Tosta Kaaren, aka the Canarsie Swede, a platinum-blonde nightclub singer whose real name is Toots Carlin? Or Paulie Paulec, the local crime boss who has a finger in every racket in town? Or playboy Lance Torrey, whose sources of income are suspect at best?

This is one of three suspenseful Amy Brewster mystery reprints by the legendary Golden Age mystery writer/editor Sam Merwin, Jr., available for the first time in more than 50 years!

Takes You Back to the Golden Age of Dective Fictio

The whole atmosphere of the book immerses you in that Golden Age of Detective Fiction ( approx 1930s for those that do not know). The story, the characters, the settings they all take place were such a thrill to listen to as I am an avid fan of nearly every Golden Age Detective Fiction there is from well-known authors to ones who today are totally forgotten.

The narrator gives the story that added feeling of being of that time with her voice and how she speaks.

I was given this for free and before I actually finished it I had already bought the second book which I am actually listening to as I type this, not planned but I hope to future listeners of the book a positive thing.

Brilliant Listen.

This is unfortunately the final Amy Brewster mystery for me. There are only 3 and they are all excellent. This time our larger than life heroine is investigating the insurance claim taken out on her friend for $500,000 by someone unknown. It's is fast paced with familiar characters, all well developed, it's short enough to be listened to in one sitting and that's what I did. Couldn't put it down! ☺
Janelle Bigham is a very good narrator and does a great job in this book. Highly recommended.
I was kindly given a copy of the book by Jim at Wordwoose and leave this honest review. *****
