Summary

A breathtaking, twisty adventure, A Place to Bury Strangers is the second Atticus Priest mystery.

A dog walker finds a human bone on lonely Salisbury Plain. DCI Mackenzie Jones investigates the grisly discovery but cannot explain how it ended up there. She contacts disgraced ex-detective Atticus Priest and the two of them trace the bone to a graveyard in the nearby village of Imber. But the village was abandoned after it was purchased by the Ministry of Defence to train the army, so why have bodies been buried in the graveyard since the church was closed?

At the same time, Atticus is approached by a single dad who needs his help to track down his missing daughter. Atticus takes on the case and finds himself battling a London gang who are selling their drugs in Salisbury and a host of witnesses who don't seem to be telling him the truth.

Atticus and Mack deal with the fiendishly complex case and unpick a conspiracy that cuts to the heart of the English establishment - while dealing with their own feelings for one another.

Twists and turns

I like the narrator. Good story line - albeit a little too coincidental. Even so well drawn together and a good ending

Even better than book 1

Couldn't stop listening, and I'm a really fussy reader/listener.
Even better than book 1 and that was brilliant!
Can't wait for book 3.

Excellent story and narration

An entertaining story with plenty of intrigue. It kept a good pace with no redundant passages. Professional writing and excellent narration.

Atticus is back!

Atticus Priest is back with another exciting case after a dog finds a human bone. The book starts straight after the events of Book 1, so it would be best to read that first before tackling this one.

The plot is twisty and a little convoluted but so much fun and kept me listening way after the time I should have been sleeping! I love the character of Atticus who is unconventional, impatient, unpredictable but totally captivating. The story ended with a cliffhanger, so I will be listening to Book 3 very soon!

The narration by Simon Vance was impeccable.

Next book bought already.

A friend recommended The House in the Woods- couldn’t put it down. Moved swiftly on the book 2 and now about to listen to book 3 - The Red Room. Simon Vance is the perfect narrator.

Complex and Fascinating

Another riveting detective tale with disturbing undercurrents of corruption, the dark web & murder.
The hero, an ex-policeman, with a dubious attitude towards legal procedure, struggles to find the right path through a quagmire of abuse, killings and dark exploitation. The tale is enhanced by the excellent narration.
Looking forward to the next volume.
