Summary

A Question of Trust is vintage Penny Vincenzi: rich with characters, life-changing decisions, glamour, love, desire and conflict.

London, 1950s. Tom Knelston is charismatic, working class and driven by ambition, ideals and passion. He is a man to watch. His wife, Alice, shares his vision. It seems they are the perfect match.

Then, out of the blue, Tom meets beautiful and unhappily married Diana Southcott, a fashion model. An exciting but dangerous affair is inevitable and potentially damaging to their careers. And when a child becomes ill, Tom is forced to make decisions about his principles, his reputation, his marriage and, most of all, his love for his child.

Marvellous storyline beautifully read

Without doubt one of the best books I have ever listened to. Penny V weaves a wonderful web of intrigue throughout the lives of her hugely believable characters exposing their personalities over decades of time. As a read it would be “unputdownable” on this occasion is is read exquisitely by Sandra Duncan which adds to the fascination of each persons life and the trials and tribulations, aspirations and failures of each of their lives. Opens up the fragility of life and its challenges in a remarkable way as we weave through the plots to the final outcomes of their “real life” - no glossing over - experiences. A masterpiece enhanced by masterful reading.

Enjoyable but not my favourite

I love a decades spanning saga and this is great for that - really allows the listener to get absorbed in the story and lives of the characters.

My main issue with this one was that I didn't really like the two main characters, Tom and Diana, and from reading other reviews online this seems to be a common theme. I found myself getting a bit bored with their narratives and waiting for the more interesting side characters like Ned and Gilly to come into play.

I recently also listened to A Perfect Heritage and enjoyed that so much more - I felt far more invested in the characters.

Beautifully narrated

Thoroughly enjoyed the characters and a walk through British history during the forties and fifties.

Great read/listen

I love Penny Vincenzi and thoroughly enjoyed this book. It is especially timely and relevant as it talks about the start of the NHS and we are now seeing its demise. Thank you Penny for a fabulous story.

Wonderful

This is Vincenzi at her best. Characters to care about and engrossing story. She weaves an interesting social history into the story. Loved this book.

Just a nice story

Another long saga involving many different characters who end up entwined. I really enjoyed it, it’s easy to listen to and not as predictable as you might think. 22 hours long so took a while.

Simply wonderful

When I started this book I just could not get on with the narrator ... but as the book went on I throughly enjoyed it! The narrator did all the different characters so wonderfully well it was like listening to a whole host of people.

The story itself ..... true to PV style it was a great listen! For me this was a marathon listen and I enjoyed every minute of the book! It got to the point where my husband constantly told me to take my headphones out !! I recommend this book wholeheartedly!
