ADHD reality check for the UK
I loved the way Chris explains why diagnosis in the UK is taking forever and how it is only going to get worse in its current set-up.
The ideas to reduce this waiting list would help so many NHS practitioners as well as the economy as a whole, never mind the individual ADHDers.
After reading other personal memoirs on ADHD, this book feels to have a more clinical, factual tone but the perspective it offers covers so many practical aspects of the ADHD condition that are often missed in other texts.
And in this way I would recommend it to anyone waiting for diagnosis themselves or their friends & family, as well as physicians who DEFINITELY need to learn more of where our current understanding has evolved to.

A pasionate look at ADHD and the journey to diagnosis in the UK for those who suspect it
I listened to this book after my sibling, who is on their own journey of discovery with ADHD, said that they recognised me in a lot of the things they had been learning about ADHD. As a near 40 year old female who is married, has been in my relationship for 24 years, has 'achieved' academically, and is not a physically hyperactive or impulsive person who engages in 'risky' behaviours, I of course dismissed the notion immediately. However, I listened out of interest to see if I could identify the traits she seemed to recognise, and alsoninnsupportbofnher own journey. And although there were some aspects that didn't bring true for me, I realise that this is because I fall more into the 'inattentive' subtype, where many of the behaviours do ring true. The chapter written and read by Pippa Simou which spoke more about the different ways in which ADHD can present (and be disguised) in women was a a real 'oh shit' moment for me where I thought - maybe I do have ADHD?! Since then, I have been through most of the phases and stages that the author, Chris, detailed and have been on my own side quest of research and learning. I do now think I need to consider a formal diagnosis, and even having only listened to the book once, the key messages of 'Titration' and 'Shared Care Agreement' appear to have been burned into my consciousness. Thank you, this book has opened my eyes and triggered the beginning of a new chapter in my life.

UK women with ADHD are finally represented
This book is invaluable, especially if you are considering a referral for ADHD diagnosis in the UK. Having a whole chapter dedicated to the presentation of symptoms in ADHD women really sets this book apart from the rest and really helped confirm my suspicions. Packed full of useful information and succinctly written (and read) by the author, it’s a beacon of hope in the dire mess that is the UK health service and it’s failure to support ADHD individuals. Don’t feel like it’s for Brits only: it will still help if you are listening elsewhere in the world. Highly recommend.
