About this listen

They were on their way to being a real family...until she came into their lives.

Expecting their first baby, Judd and Evette McGlin are thrilled at the prospect of becoming parents. But their marriage faces the ultimate test when Judd learns he already has a child: a six-year-old biracial daughter, born amid secrets and lies. Now, Evette must decide if she can accept the child - and forgive Judd. She thought she was open-minded - until hidden prejudices threaten the future of an innocent little girl, Evette's marriage, and the very notion of the woman she's believed herself to be.

Above all things, this child needs acceptance and love. She needs Evette to discover what being a mother truly means. She needs Judd to face his past. And she needs them both to discover what it truly means to be a family.

Force fed religion with added racism - not a good listen.

This story was pretty one dimensional. Plenty of racism with the added hilarity of one character’s skin tone varying between mocha, cafe au lait, cinnamon and mahogany within a couple of chapters. The most irritating part was the force feeding of religious dogma, not recommended at all.

Holier than now

Not very convincing portrait. Lots about God…characters too sickly sweet for me. I don’t recommend this.

Very misleading title description

Nowhere in the description of this book does it say that this is a real god squad book. I personally found it to be so pious, judgemental and racist and stopped reading a bit of the way into it.

I suspended my disbelief- but not for long

Not what I was expecting at all. Rather sickly sweet, too good to be true- and didn’t think, in this instance, all the hod references were necessary or pertinent to the story. Having worked with children, I was appalled at the way the child was treated especially by that dreadful grandmother ( Carla?) dumping her on the couple then just coming to collect her - and the couple being quite dopey about it all . Where were children’s services??????
I did listen the end - but didn’t feel improved or satisfied with the experience. I need to find a properly researched book where the characters are defined better.

Unrealistic story too much religious fur our

The narrator is deep American so I suppose matches the god country morals of the story. By chapter two I’d had enough. Written and Set in 1800 it would be more believable. Sorry not at all for an English Athiest!
