Summary

From Academy Award-winning multi-talent Jamie Foxx, a hilariously candid look at the joys and pitfalls of being the father of two daughters.

Jamie Foxx is not only an actor, comedian and musician, he's also starring in his most humbling and long-running role yet as father to two independent girls: Corinne and Anelise. While his daughters have very different views on the world, there is one thing they can agree on: Dad gets on their motherf---ing nerves. Though every day with his girls brings hurdles and hilarity, he's learned a lot along the way.

In Act Like You Got Some Sense - a title inspired by his beloved and fierce grandmother - Jamie reveals his rocky parenting journey through priceless stories about the tough love and old-school values he learned growing up in the small town of Terrell, Texas; his early days trying to make it in Hollywood; and life after achieving stardom. You would think being an A-lister would ease his dad-duty struggles, but if anything, it has only made things more complicated. It seems that a teenage girl who just wants to blend in with her friends will not be excited to see her dad's flashy new convertible at the front of the carpool lane.

Hilarious, poignant and always brutally honest, Act Like You Got Some Sense is Jamie Foxx like we've never seen him before, dealing with problems he never imagined he'd have.

Loved every second of the audiobook!

I give Jamie Foxx's 'Act Like You Got Some Sense' 4 out of 5. I would recommend the audiobook to a friend.

+Funny stories throughout;
+Foxx narrates as if he is in the room with you;
+Foxx's upbringing informs his judgement on how to raise his daughters. Bringing about 'New Dad'. A progressive and understanding version of himself;
+Foxx effectively communicates and listens to his daughters;
+Some important life lessons are learned by both Foxx and his daughters, and the audience;
+The whole book stays on point: which the raising of his daughters. It does not deviate unless there something to essential to add.

-As best as he tries to raise his daughters with certain morals, principles and values. There is a dichotomy with his lifestyle choices and the values he wants to instill in his daughters. Which makes him a hypocrite in my opinion. A deluded hypocrite.

***
I have listened to Jamie Foxx's 'Act Like You Got Some Sense'. A book about his relationship with his daughters, what lessons, values and tools his instilled in them, as well as his own coming of age story with some of the characters in his life that helped shape him.

I have to express my sincere interest in every chapter read by Jamie Foxx. He simply brought the performance of stage into my mind as he vividly describes his mistakes, his heartache, and his love for his daughters.

Jamie Foxx being a comedian brought a lot of light humour amongst the heavy pitfalls his faced in his life as both a youngster with very little attention and affection of his birth parents and as a father making honest mistakes as anyone would, but still trying to be attentive and loving Dad.

If anyone wondered if they should get this book: I say go for it. Especially the audiobook where Jamie Foxx is narrating the book himself. Strange sounds and laughter are sprinkled throughout the book, it is as if Foxx is in the room with you telling you a story. I genuinely enjoyed every minute of the book and couldn't wait until the next chapter.

Although, I must add I'm not in total agreement with Jamie's philosophies of life nor his stunted religious views.

Foxx consistently referenced his upbringing in a strict religious household and going to church every Sunday, as if that gives a lifetime licence as a morally upstanding individual. A man that is known to party day and night and brags about it, and had multiple interactions with women in various questionable settings can not tell me nothing about raising daughters with morals and values. Where was his values jumping from one girl at a party to the next, and still sees nothing wrong with it decades later. Foxx admits there have been times where he was taken to task for his antics by eldest daughter.

Something in that picture that Foxx is describing does not sit right with me. I mean the dichotomy of the strict upbringing of his childhood and later on as a grown man the looseness of his party lifestyle.

Both parents are an example to their children. It is one thing to date responsibly and respectfully of everyone involved - including the kids. It is quite another to continue circumventing your late night rendezvous and partying lifestyle cause you got the kids over this week. Although, that particular perspective of life is something I do not agree with, and will not be force fed it as if that is a healthy way of life, I can see that Foxx is simply a man that is trying his best to raise his daughters the best he can.

Communication is Foxx's superpower. He communicates with his daughters and really listens to their voices. Whatever they may need to say to him be it good or bad - he listens, and that is lovely.

Audiobook is the only way to do this book

Superbly delivered in his trademark charismatic manner, this was a great listen. Enjoyed it immensely.

I wish I hadn't

I wish I hadn't bought this book. I did give it a listen but found it pretty awful.
I like Jamie Foxx as a performer. I enjoyed him all the way back in "In Living Color" and he was amazing in "Django unchained". This didn't work for me at all though. I suppose he was trying to share but it felt insincere to me.

Utterly disappointing! It was a chore listening

I've listened to the likes of Kevin Hart, Will Smith, Jimmy Carr and 50 Cent, and this book is no where close to the likes of what I just mentioned. I got that it was going to be somewhat about his daughters but it felt like you're just part of some therapy sessio n when it wasn't actually needed. His stories about them where just the run of the mill nothing gripping. If he wanted to show how much he cared for his daughters he should've just wrote it in a card instead of a book. I'm such a fan of his acting and career but this was a complete flop for me. if this was above 7 hours I would've stopped half way through.

What was that book about again?

I couldn’t quite decipher from the description what the book was actually about. Having listened to it I am even more confused. If you want to listen to a random chat about whatever pops into the mind of Jamie Foxx then this is the book for you. The stories, although delivered well, were weak at best. Sorry, I really wanted to like this book.
