Must read
I was so impacted by this book and its relevant topic. I have been very interested in all books about Narcissism lately, and Amazon has some AMAZING ones for sale right now. This one specifically digs into the mother-daughter relationship and how a narcissistic mother can shape who her daughter becomes psychologically and emotionally AND how to deal/heal with/from it. My favorite aspect of the book was how to regain confidence and security within yourself.

Sometimes parents teach us what not to do or be!
As a daughter of a mother whose cruelty felt like a shadow over my childhood, I have carried many wounds into adulthood. When I saw this audiobook, I had a mix of hope and hesitation. Could a book really help me heal years of emotional neglect and pain? I was about to find out.
From the moment I started listening, it felt as if Claire was speaking directly to me, validating experiences I had long buried. Her words resonated deeply, revealing the insidious nature of narcissism and its lasting impacts. The book tackles the heavy burden of growing up under the shadow of a narcissistic mother, shedding light on the emotional neglect many of us faced. I started to understand that my feelings weren’t just “overreactions”; they were responses to a tumultuous upbringing.
One of the most liberating aspects of this book is its focus on "silencing your inner critic." Claire skillfully guides the reader to confront those negative voices we often inherit from our mothers, helping us recognize that we are not defined by their narratives. She writes, “You have the right to own your story and reclaim your voice,” and those words filled me with a sense of empowerment I had been yearning for.
Throughout the audiobook, Claire shares practical exercises and insightful strategies that helped me start the healing process. I also found that forgiveness was necessary for me to heal and grow away from the past. I found myself reflecting on my emotions and learning how to nurture the parts of me that my mother neglected. I felt a growing sense of confidence, something I thought I’d never achieve, as I learned to silence the criticisms that had haunted me for so long.
I am incredibly grateful for this book. Brown has crafted a lifeline for those of us who are ready to reclaim our power, heal from our past, and finally step into the light with more strength than we knew we had!
