About this listen

Lori Golden's family have had more than their fair share of troubles. But through it all, Lori and her sister, Jessie, have always supported each other. Then Jessie is killed. And Lori's world turns upside down.

Devastated, Lori struggles to cope with her loss, and to learn to live in a world without her bright, bubbly sister by her side. Around her, her already fractured family start to fall apart. And, as Lori and her mother try to pick up the pieces of their shattered lives, secrets long thought buried are coming painfully to light.

Faced with the unthinkable, Lori is forced to ask herself how well she really knows those who are left behind...

Good story but narrator not great

Struggled with the narrator. Won't buy any further books narrated by her.

Story had a twist

Dreadful, dreadful narration

I have really no idea of the merit of the book itself because I can't get past the horrible narration.

Heather Wilds uses a particularly awful monotone. Imagine Alexa with less emotion. Or Siri when she's bored. Now add the enthusiasm of a teenager forced to read Shakespeare out loud, with zero understanding of the text and a determined effort to show her contempt of the subject.

Unbearable!!!!

Terrible narration

Although the story sounded like it would be good, I couldn’t cope with the awful narration! I listen to loads of audible books & have never had to give up on a book due to the narrator. Really disappointing.

Weak storyline.

I did not really enjoy this book. Could have been the voice of the narrator. With a stronger more experienced voice it would have made the plot more interesting instead of boring. She sounded like a school kid reading out loud and nervous with it.

After She's Gone

I've given this audiobook a grudged two stars not because I disliked the book but because the narration was SO BAD. The story was excellent, full of suspense right up to the end and all in all a good read. The narration, however, was dreadful, so much so, that I really had to MAKE myself stick with it. I would encourage readers to READ the book but NOT to listen to it!

Boring

this is the most boring narration I have ever listened too. it's just too robotic as if she is reading a shopping list. I didn't even get passed the first chapter. Sorry.

Once into this you cannot put it down.

Lots of imagination in this book. Twists then turns just when you think you have sussed it out. Listened on Audio but though Heather Wilds has a lovely voice and clear diction, I found it was said in poetry and kept waiting for the dip in each sentence. Otherwise brilliant. Would recommend this.

Irritating Reader

Felt the story was a bit ‘staged’ and far-fetched in terms of interpersonal psychology.
The reader had awful intonation which really grated and made listening experience unsettling and disjointed.

Ruined by the narration!

I persevered with this until chapter 8 because the story itself seemed good (I can't be completely certain, since I gave up at that point). Sadly, I could not listen any longer due to the horrible narration. Heather Wilds has a robotic style which she just got away with for me in a previous comedy book, but in a serious novel it's distracting in the extreme. I gave the narration two stars, rather than one, as she was accurate, never fluffled her speech and read some dialogue appropriately and well. Unfortunately, there was not enough of the latter. I think with good narration, this may have been experienced as a decent novel.
