About this listen
When you can't trust yourself, who can you believe?
Everything about Anna's life is a secret. Her father works for the Branch at the helm of its latest project: monitoring and administering treatments to the four genetically altered boys in the lab below their farmhouse. There's Nick, solemn and brooding; Cas, lighthearted and playful; Trev, smart and caring; and Sam...who's stolen Anna's heart. Reserved and always controlled, Sam does everything with purpose.
When the Branch decides it's time to take the boys, Sam stages an escape, killing the agents sent to retrieve them. Anna is torn between following Sam or staying behind in the safety of her everyday life. But her father pushes her to go, making Sam promise to keep her away from the Branch, at all costs. There's just one problem. Sam and the boys don't remember anything before living in the lab - not even their true identities.
Now on the run, her father's warning in her head, Anna begins to doubt everything she thought she knew about herself. She soon discovers that she and Sam are connected in more ways than either of them expected. And if they're both going to survive, they must piece together the clues of their past before the Branch catches up to them and steals it all away.

This book may alter you!
What did you like best about Altered? What did you like least?
I enjoyed the connection between the main characters but didn't like the predictability of the story as I read it I was able to predict many plot twists a couple of pages before they happened.
How would you have changed the story to make it more enjoyable?
I would speed up certain sections which dragged a little.
Would you be willing to try another one of Casey Holloway’s performances?
Possibly, her reading was ok, and her voice didn't distract me from the story.
Could you see Altered being made into a movie or a TV series? Who would the stars be?
Not sure
Any additional comments?
Altered was an interesting book to say the least, it's about a girl called Anna who helps her father run a lab in their basement which has four boys who are being genetically altered for a government experiment. The book follows the friendships and a little love interest that develops between Anna and 'the boys'. Altered is full of twists and turns as the story develops especially concerning the main character Anna but I predicted majority of them a few pages before they happened which was a bit annoying. There are some strong morally huge questions that are only touched upon in the book, for one locking away human beings! I won't mention many more as it will give away parts of the story. I enjoyed the book but was expecting a HUGE explosion in the plot as there was such a build up of hope and excitement as you get further into the book, but as I predicted some of the twists before it happened I was left deflated and disappointed:( this did take a little away from the enjoyment of the story) and the action involved added a little extra to it, I would recommend this book to others but I would say as your reading it also think about the morals and legality issues as they are mind blowing which I think a lot of people miss as their wrapped up in the story!
I hope this review helps you, please rate it, it really means a lot. Thanks for reading:)

Narrator Ruined an Already Terrible Book
If this book wasn’t for you, who do you think might enjoy it more?
The book is for the younger tween set, there are far better YA books in the genre, I'd not recommend it to anyone.
Has Altered put you off other books in this genre?
Not at all, it has however made me avoid Jennifer Rush's books and the same for Casey Holloway's Narrator performances.
Would you be willing to try another one of Casey Holloway’s performances?
Not at all. She was dreadful, her reading style reminded me of a child learning to read. She put full stops when there shouldn't be any, and every few seconds took a long breath which sounded like the end of the paragraph. Then she added a vocal rise in the middle of sentences that sounded like the author was posing a question when she wasn't. A truly terrible narrator, who could have ruined any book, her reading style distracted from the story and I was so caught up listening for the next pause I missed bits. thank goodness there is not much of a story to miss here.
You didn’t love this book--but did it have any redeeming qualities?
nope.
Any additional comments?
The story was awful, forgetting miss annoying narrator, the story didn’t save itself. You wake up one night, sneak down to your fathers secret lab and find he’s hiding four young boys, so what do you do? call the police? let them go? no- you keep sneaking down there, for FIVE years. Not once did Anna question what was happening with the boys, nor whether it was right or not! She does say on occasion that she considered letting them go, REALLY? considered it?! Jeez.
Then we have the surprising twist. Except nope, that was beyond obvious too, then there was another, which was just as obvious. The biggest issue was that there was little point to the book, if I’d got no memory and escaped a secret lab, my first order of business would be finding out why they kept me there and who I was. But no, instead they go on some sort of treasure hunt where there was no real ‘big discovery’ at all.
The book was full of face slapping moment where you literally wanted to scream at the characters to stop being so stupid. But it had hot guys and a back tattoo so I’m sure the tween generation will be thrilled. Think Abbi Glines with everything interesting taken out and a load of crap put in and you get the idea.
Dreadful.
