About this listen
Peter hated him…
…and the murder was brutal.
Could he really be the killer?
Peter served his country in Afghanistan. The brain injury was severe. To survive in the hospital, he kept his focus on the one thing that mattered, Mary. What he found back home, broke him.
Mary was with Billy, the bully who terrorized his childhood.
When the police arrested him for Billy’s murder, they had just one problem...
Peter claimed he couldn’t remember what he did that night.
Detective Luca’s career can’t afford another mistake. This case could be a problem, though, as the obvious suspect doesn’t remember a thing. Is Peter trying to pull a fast one?
Who else could have done it?
There’s more at play than meets the eye. Politics and personal demons plague him. Luca’s career and maybe his life are on the line.
You’ll love this riveting book one in the Luca Mystery police procedural series because of the unexpected plot twists.

Am I good? Oh yes
I enjoyed this book. I found with in just a few minutes that I cared about the characters and hoped that he would turn out to be innocent of the crime he was accused of. The story starts with how the suspect was injured and what he and his brother went through while In hospital and is told through there eyes. Then after the murder the book is told by several characters but mainly by the lead detective Luca and the two brother, which I think works really well and keeps the story interesting. The mystery was good and it did keep you guessing whether he was guilty or innocent all the way through. The main character is stubborn and goes with his gut, a lot which makes the top brass unhappy but makes for a great character and I look forward to see how he develops with each book and I hope the author has plans for the rest of the series to be released as audio books.
Pete Hill is on his way home from fighting in Afghanistan when he is injured. The head injury turns his and his brothers world upside down, as he has to relearn how to do everyday tasks. The biggest problem is the effect the trauma has on his memory, so when a man is killed Pete has no idea if he is guilty or not. Billy was a bully and one of his victims at school was Pete but his biggest crime was stealing Pete's girlfriend while he was away. Could that be the motive? He just can't remember. The detective in charge of the investigation thinks that Pete makes an easy target and with his bosses pushing for homicide cases to be sollved more quickly he refuses to be rushed into making a quick arrest. With the evidence stacking up against Pete, the more Luca believes someone else is responsible. Can he find who really killed Billy before he send another innocent man to jail?
I liked the narrator and thought he did a good job, there was a lot of characters from suspects to doctor's but he tried to give them all there own voices.

Memory loss is a nightmare...
This is the first Dan Petrosini book that I've had the pleasure of listening to (or reading) so far. It's the opening story in his Luca series and eventually does indeed feature Detective Luca (about a third of the way through!). Before that it's all about the soldier desperate to get home to his girlfriend and the accident that leaves him with a traumatic brain injury, followed by his slow and very uneven recovery. Then, there's a murder and in a city that's suffering from a noticeable crime wave, a lack of patience leads to an arrest...
Well enough written for a first in series, though a bit light on certain details at times. Luca is nicely abrasive, his partner interesting and the vet sensitively portrayed. The narration is mostly good, though at times it seems as if perhaps the narrator might not have read the material before performing. That said, not a bad effort.

A Nice Book.
Allin all it's a nice book and I enjoyed listening to the story, I found it a bit slow with too many details in the beginning. The end left a few untied threads but ...

Good start to series.
I received this book free for an honest review.
Having listened to books 2&3 first I thought this book would make sense but it can be read as a stand alone.
This is the first intro to Luca and his original partner the story is slow but good and I enjoyed it.
