About this listen
Amygdala is a story of animals, born to a world of swirling, fractal chaos, who learned the art of civilization. Their government was forged in fire, ruled only by the objective truth of all things, with no room for incompetence, mercy, or even morality. Their city, 'The Underbirth', holds within it the greatest collection of animal minds, born of mechanical systems designed to test everything: natural, cultural, industrial selection. Their art is beguiling, their science boundless, their bodies strong and lean and perfect.
And yet, amidst the beauty of a culture ruled by absolute competence, some begin to ask: what is the cost of civilization? When do animals stop being animals? Is there another way?

The unique world building
The author, Sam Fennah, narrates this book superbly. I have read the physical book, that was imaginative and expertly crafted. The book has feels of Lovecraft and HG Wells, although Fennah has his own very unique writer’s voice.
A truly immersive experience with original music, this audio book will not disappoint those who love the genres of fantasy, new world epics, dragons and other worldly creatures.
The character building and plot are extra special. Each character has unique drivers, and plots intertwine superbly. I felt I was watching an epic film in my mind as I listened.
With a second book in a series of six planned, this will be a collection I will be excited to say I discovered before the hoards. First editions will be collectors’ pieces for sure. What a narrator’s voice Fennah has … up there with the best.
