Summary

One of the most inspired and inspiring manifestos of our art that I know. (Richard Monette, Stratford artistic director)

Constantin Stanislavski (1863-1938), arguably the most influential director in the history of the theater, was the founder of the renowned Moscow Art Theater. A pioneer of psychological realism and improvisation on the stage, he devoted his life to developing the performance techniques now emulated throughout the world.

In this first-ever audio edition of his classic work, Stanislavski's simple exercises fire the imagination, and help listeners not only discover their own conception of reality but how to reproduce it as well. An Actor Prepares is brilliantly narrated by Mike Fraser.

Very poorly read.

I bought this as a companion to the actual book. I am finding it incredibly difficult to concentrate on this audiobook because the readers voice is so dull and monotonous it sounds like it has been read by an ai bot. I think he may be the ‘just eat’ robot voice. He sounds like Michael Gambon on sedatives and I keep zoning out. Do not listen while driving or operating heavy machinery. Will be a great cure for insomnia though.

An Actor’s Chore

Listening to the inner workings of Stanislavski is crucial and fascinating for a beginning/advanced actor, but the narration was so dull and monotonous.
