About this listen
In the sordid streets of Victorian London, unwanted desire flares between two bitter enemies brought together by a deadly secret.
Crusading journalist Nathaniel Roy is determined to expose spiritualists who exploit the grief of bereaved and vulnerable people. First on his list is the so-called Seer of London, Justin Lazarus. Nathaniel expects him to be a cheap, heartless fraud. He doesn't expect to meet a man with a sinful smile and the eyes of a fallen angel - or that a shameless swindler will spark his desires for the first time in years.
Justin feels no remorse for the lies he spins during his séances. His gullible clients simply bore him. Hostile, disbelieving, utterly irresistible Nathaniel is a fascinating challenge. And as their battle of wills and wits heats up, Justin finds he can't stop thinking about the man who's determined to ruin him.
But Justin and Nathaniel are linked by more than their fast-growing obsession with one another. They are both caught up in an aristocratic family's secrets, and Justin holds information that could be lethal. As killers, fanatics, and fog close in, Nathaniel is the only man Justin can trust - and, perhaps, the only man he could love.

Wonderful escapism
Highly enjoyable and suspenseful romp. Clearly meticulously researched. Perhaps esp enjoyable if you are a London resident in current times. Lovely narration!

Loved the continued story
The narrator is exceptional. I don't think I have ever enjoyed a reading of a book so much. It was almost like a fully cast play. The continued story jheld a lot of suspense and mystery. I can't wait to start part 3.

Hairy at times
Entertaining period romp. Intelligent, well crafted MCs showcase their skills in their individual fields, which subsequently overlap in delicious ways, to create a very engaging tale.
This author knows how to bend and shape the English language to best effect, coupled with excellent narration, which serves to enhance the drama and tension.
JOLLY GOOD SHOW

Great gripping mystery and romance
I really enjoyed listening to the two protagonists on their respective and intertwined journeys, and can't wait for the next installment! It winds up with a cosy kind of feel/aftertaste, despite all the excitement, as you feel so comfortable in K J Charles' world.

Gripping sequel
I really enjoyed the first book but this one exceeded expectations. Set in the mirky fog of Victorian London we follow Nathaniel Roy’s investigations into the Seer of London whilst grappling with the mystery of who is the rightful heir to a fortune. I love that I really can’t predict what’s going to happen.

Thrilling and masterfully narrated
KJ Charles never disappoints but this might be my favourite series of hers. The backstory running through the first book continues here with a gripping and hot romance going. very addictive.

Danger & intrigue shrouded in the mists of London
This is the second book in this Series, preceded by An Unseen Attraction and followed by An Unsuitable Heir and I’d recommend reading the first book before this. This story can be enjoyed as it is but important threads of the story flow through all three books so they stand stronger listened to in order.
The main characters in this book couldn’t be more different from each other and are bitter adversaries. Nathaniel is a dignified gentleman working as a journalist and studied Law at university so has a core which abhors deception, especially when committed by those exploiting the more vulnerable in their society. Justin was born to poverty, hardship and abuse, clawing his way out of the gutter to live in safety and comfort working as a Spiritualist. The two meet and clash amidst a whirl of danger, intrigue and chemistry thicker than the sinister fog of Victorian London!!
