Summary

Harry Bosch finds himself yet again in charge of a case that no one else will touch. This time his job is to nail the killer of hot shot black lawyer Howard Elias. Elias has been found murdered on the eve of going to court on behalf of Michael Harris, a man the LAPD believes guilty of the rape and murder of a twelve-year-old girl.

Elias had let it be known that the aim of his civil case was not only to reveal the real killer but to target and bring down the racist cops who beat up his client during a violent interrogation. Now it's all down to Bosch - and he's got to take a long, hard look at some of his colleagues in a police department that is rife with suspicion and hatred.

Another great Harry Bosch tale

I love the Harry Bosch books and am currently listening to them all in order. After Dick Hill's wonderful narration on the previous books Peter Giles's takes a while to get used to. Initially it sounds like every line is being said like it's the tag line on a movie trailer but stick with it and you will get so absorbed in the story that it won't matter. I got used to the narration as the book went on and it didn't bother me after a while.
The story is great, as they have all been so far, plenty of gritty police in fighting and intrigue as well as a case complicated enough that you won't guess the outcome straight away.
I'm off to listen to the next one now!

Brilliant Bosch - mediocre narration

Fantastic plot, but it sounds like it’s being narrated by Lego Batman. The narration distracted from how great the story really is. I eventually got over this, but happy to see that this narrator is a one off in a the series.

Not at his best

I have all the Harry Bosch books and they have proved addictive however Angels Flight doesn’t do as much as the others for me. Peter Giles does not portray Harry as well as I have been used to.

Very disappointed with Peter Giles as a narrator

What made the experience of listening to Angels Flight the most enjoyable?

The complex and twisting plot was very good. If Dick Hill had still been the narrator, I would have probably listened to this in 2 or 3 days. However, Peter Giles is not a superb narrator, his voice and style are irritating

How did the narrator detract from the book?

His voice, style and presentation are pretentious and unnecessarily gruff. He is unable to vary his pitch enough to accommodate female characters. Bring back Dick Hill, who has a stunning ability to tell a good story.

I honestly don't know if I can stand another book narrated by Giles.

Rubbish narration

Did not like the narrator for this one - very annoying voice which detracted from the story. I have been listening to the series sequentially and I really hope he isn’t on the next one. Please revert to the ones before or get Titus Welliver in to redo it!

annoying narration

This is a great story but I couldn't cope with the American intonation of the narrator. I found his voice annoying and distracting.

disappointed with change of reader from first book

I am disappointed with change of reader from first book to less talented narrator.
sounds like a continuous movie trailer voice over.

Love the book - dislike the breathy narration

Would you try another book written by Michael Connelly or narrated by Peter Giles?

Yes to Michael Connelly but no to Peter Giles

What was one of the most memorable moments of Angels Flight?

Waiting for the tension surrounding Eleanor Wish to break

Would you be willing to try another one of Peter Giles’s performances?

No

Could you see Angels Flight being made into a movie or a TV series? Who would the stars be?

Hmm - would need more time to mull that over

Great book, terrible narration.

Have loved every single Harry Bosch book so far, however this narrator seemed to have little to no understanding of the meaning of the sentences he was reading. Inflections were all over the place, the tone was dreadful and pauses were unpredictable and inappropriate. Shame.

A classic Bosch!

A gripping story with all the classic Bosch twists and turns. Kept me spellbound until the end. Very good narration.
