Summary

Just how far is a mother willing to go?

When a mysterious note arrives for six months pregnant Dr Eliana Hughes, she begins to doubt every aspect of her life - from her mixed feelings about motherhood to her marriage to Martin, who has become distant in recent months.

As the person behind the note escalates their campaign to out Eli’s husband as a cheat, she finds herself unable to trust even her own instincts, and as pressure builds, she makes a mistake that jeopardises her entire future.

Elsewhere, someone is watching. Someone who desperately wants a baby to call their own and will go to any lengths to become a mother - and stay a mother....

Very good narration. The book kept me gripped, good twist. I will be definitely checking out the authors other books.

Difficult start, but more than worth it at the end

Honestly thought I was going to have to return this book as I struggled to get into it initially. Thankfully I stuck it out and was very impressed with the twists and ended up really enjoying the book. Clever storytelling and fascinating plot.

Audio is awfully quiet compared to other audiobooks, found myself often having to turn the volume up which made the Chapter introductions a bit too loud!

Writing and dialogue can get a bit repetitive, but the characters have a sense of realness and I found myself easy to imagine them.

Brilliant!

This was so good. Even though you know early on what’s happening and I will admit I thought at that point it was going to have to waffle an awful lot to fill the other seven plus hours, but no, it was still so full of suspense, there was no padding required and not a wasted scene throughout. Amazingly written, engaging characters and excellent narration. It’s 13th February and of the 30 plus I’ve listened to so far this year this is definitely going to be in my top five listens for the year, I cannot see it losing its place. Along with “14” by Peter Clines, a book I’d never have listened to had I known the genre was science fiction. But “Apple of my eye”, my preferred genre, was a cut above the general and extremely over hyped suspense thrillers.

Loved it!

Couldn't stop listening.
Easy to listen to, real characters and a brilliant but fairly sad story. I did shed a few tears at the end.
Highly recommend.

Absolutely Brilliant!!

I don't want to give anything away.. so can't say too much. I love psychological thrillers, but they so often follow the same format with the same types of characters... this was a real breath of fresh air!
Really well written with a superbly crafted plot and fantastic realistic characters.
I also thought the narrators were brilliant. My next listen will have a hard job matching this!

Fabulous!

During the early chapters, I wondered about returning this book. It seemed a bit ‘chic lit’ for me. I’m so glad I persevered as it became something else entirely. A real thriller. I can say no more without revealing spoilers. Therefore, I’ll just say ‘buy it’!

Fantastic story which is narrated brilliantly

This is the second novel by Claire Allen I've listened to and it's a fantastic character driven story. The narrators bring the story to life.
I highly recommend you give it a go.
