About this listen

Are you an ash?

Increased stamina....

Lack of appetite....

Anger outbursts....

Insatiable thirst....

Beauty and strength....

Male....

Call the hotline if these symptoms come on suddenly!

Turns out Charlie Bennet was all of those things except the last. Don't let the name fool you, Charlie was all woman, and she wanted nothing to do with the ash...until the day she found out she was one.

It all started when infected bats bit a small group of humans and created what are now called vampires. Then, the male vampires knocked up some female humans, and the result was a gorgeous race of all male ash - superhuman freaks that had looks to kill.

Charlie is the first female ash, aka unicorn of the Hive - the gated compound in Portland that the humans have designated to isolate vampires and ash from society.

Problem? The Hive is full, and only a select few will be allowed to live there. To live at all, really. If Charlie wants to earn the right to become a citizen of the Hive, she will have to survive the culling - a series of fights to the death. And guess what? Just because she's a girl doesn't mean she'll get special treatment.

Good thing there's Ryder, the mysterious lead ash enforcer, who seems to always have her back. But when secrets bubble to the surface, it will take more than one guy to save her.

Recommended for ages 17+ due to language.

Good

Great story, nice to have a different twist. Narration a bit sketchy in places. Hurry up with the next one!

Good Read by an Author I have never read before

Who was your favorite character and why?

I enjoyed the development of Ryder. He didn't chase the main character. He stays professional as an enforcer. I like the fact he seems to have a good sense of ethics and morality.

What about Dara Rosenberg’s performance did you like?

Powerful performance by Dara Rosenberg. Her character voices were not brilliant but very acceptable.

Any additional comments?

The story had pace and gave a new view on how vampires came in to existence. In the recent past vaguely believable series of circumstances created Vampires and Ash. The story is full of strong characters. I don't like long drawn out battle scenes but the fights which allowed her to survive the culling where sufficiently detailed to show the brutality.
It was a very worthwhile read. I will definitely watch for the next book in the series.

A very good start to a series

What did you like most about Ash?

A very different take on vampires/Ash, good storyline though aimed at a younger reader than myself. Will look for next book.

totally enjoyable

She makes me laugh all the way. Charlie, BFF and BAFF all of them have their own voice to keep you waiting for the next line. It gives to the n book and extra star. Great job.

Need more readers

I really liked the story however there as only a single female reader which didnt bring the story to life as she read the narritive for the male characters. Plus the accents were not very good

Pleasantly Surprised

Enjoyable and a good storyline, the language level isn't as good as I would have enjoyed especially considering the lead had almost finished College (University) ... My one annoyance is that no one told the narrator that her Scottish, Australian and English accents are in fact terrible variations of Cockney English... Grrrr
