About this listen
A man with secrets meets a woman on the run.
Finn can't discuss his career; it's classified. He's about to leave Puerto Rico on a mission when he meets Mary. She wants to hitch a ride on his sailboat; she doesn't care where he's going.
Finn thinks she's a rootless kid looking for adventure. He'll take her along; she'll provide cover for his clandestine activity.
They're preparing to leave when Finn learns there's more to Mary's baggage than her backpack. He has second thoughts about giving her a ride, but it's too late. They need to get away from Puerto Rico in a hurry.
As they sail down island, Finn grows fond of Mary. She's had a run of bad luck, and he's sympathetic. When they reach their first stop, they discover that she didn't leave her troubles behind.
What's Finn gotten himself into? Listen to Assassins and Liars and find out.

Some folks just need killing.
The Caribbean, and Finn has recently retired from his secret military job, but hasn't stopped working: he's about to head for his second contract fulfilment when a young woman asks for a temporary crew place on his boat, Island Girl. She's attractive, bare footed and seems to know her sailing stuff so he agrees , thinking she might help give him cover. But Mary has her own agenda, as Finn very quickly discovers.
I am not a sailing person, nor do I ever wish to become one, so I know nothing of the skills needed to 'drive a boat'. But this book gave a real feeling of being in the presence of an expert, with the additional pleasures of the scent of salt in the air and sunshine in which to bask in deck: quite delicious. The characters of both of the main protagonists emerged natura!!y as the story progresses and as they lead ex more about each other, helped additionally by the excellent performance of narrator Davis Bosco, whose reading was a pleasure to hear.
'No destination, no schedule, that's my plan,' Finn had stated, but not before a second in this new sailing mystery series by Charles Dougherty, I trust. A gentle, enjoyable thriller which has wetted my appetite for more. My thanks to the rights holder of Assassins and Liars, who, at my rquest, freely gifted me with a complimentary copy, via Audiobook Boom. Recommended, especially if you long to sail between the Caribbean islands. But pretty good for everyone who likes an intriguing thriller.
