I Wish I Had This Book Sooner

This is a deeply personal book for me. As a parent, it’s so easy to feel lost when your child gets an autism diagnosis, but this book was like a roadmap for our journey.

I really appreciated the way the book helped me understand my child better and find ways to support him through each stage of life. What’s also great is that the book does not just focus on early intervention. It goes all the way through to adulthood, covering everything from communication strategies to dealing with behavior issues to finding resources and support.

What I also liked is that the author, James R. Davis, speaks from personal experience— and it really makes all the difference. He doesn’t talk about autism in clinical terms—he’s been there, and his advice really shows that.

This book also gave me a much-needed reminder to take care of myself as a parent. It’s so easy to forget about your own needs when you’re busy taking care of your child, but Davis does a great job of showing how important it is for parents to recharge and be there for their kids in the long run.

The resources section alone is worth the price of the book, with links to support groups, therapists, and other helpful tools I didn’t even know existed.

If you’re a parent who feels overwhelmed or unsure about what comes next after a diagnosis, this book is exactly what you need. It’s practical, relatable, and filled with hope.

I wish I had this book when we first started this journey, but I’m grateful to have it now. I’ll definitely be recommending it to other parents.
