Summary

What kind of power is lurking inside him?

After a year of training to become a dragonrider, Jaevid Broadfeather has been sent home to rest during a three-month interlude. But when he returns to find the king drake has chosen Beckah Derrick as his new rider, Jaevid realizes something big is about to happen.

Every fiber of his being is pushed to the breaking point as Jaevid battles through his avian year, preparing for the final graduation test of the battle scenario. But there is more standing in his way than a few push-ups and fancy sword moves. Jaevid must face a new fear as he is tormented by a gruesome nightmare of a mysterious gray elf warrior murdering the royal family of Maldobar. It seems obvious to him that this is some kind of message about how the war started long ago - until Felix assures him the king is very much alive.

With his strange powers growing stronger by the day and that violent dream replaying in his mind every night, Jaevid no longer wonders if he will pass his avian year or not - he wonders if he will even survive it. The truth will soon be set loose.

great story but narrators voice irritating

I liked the story and the characters. However it was a struggle to listen to the story as I found the narrators voice and accent really grating.

my daughter liked it. I didn t

I usually enjoy listening to audiobooks with my daughter but this time I didn t. The reader 's voice was so monotonous I switched off straight away. After saying that my daughter enjoyed it and thought his voice was like that because the character is a half bread. I don t buy it myself and can t comment on the story but she liked it and wants to hear the next one. unless they have another reader I won t bother.

Loving this series!

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

Absolutely! I've found that listening to the story has helped the characters come alive like they are in the room with me. Much better than my own voice in my head.

What did you like best about this story?

Beckah chosen by the king drake and the relationship that builds between her and Jaevid.

Have you listened to any of Jesse Einstein’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

Yes. The first book of this series was done by Jesse. He reads well and gives a great voice to the characters.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

Yes, I loved the growth spurt of Jaevid and how he is viewed differently. He had struggled with prejudice's and now folks feared him. My heart broke for him. Although, of course several folks treated him no different, but maybe were hesitant still in the beginning. Wow. What a twist.

Any additional comments?

This is a must buy and listen!!! Trust me!

YA audience target.

Narrator reading feels forced and I have to think it's due to the writing style he has to narrate. The sentences feel over simplified and not always natural for a person speaking the lines out loud.

Scene descriptions are lacking. Weird plot holes. Biggest one for me was the main character observes a dragon rider visiting his house to order a saddle from his father. All observers were super excited to see a dragon rider and nobody has seen an actual dragon. Later, when the main character comes back to his same house, with an actual dragon that he had to have flown over the town, not a single person observed this event? No mention of cover of darkness flying in etc so don't know what time it was. Just he lands at his house. Then proceeds to hide his dragon in the workshop of his small house.

Just weird things like that.

Overall, story has potential and I purchased others in the series.

Feels like Eragon fan fiction...But not

Spolier alert ahead: I liked this book, truly I did. However, what the author did with Becca's character made me nuts! Seriously? As a women myself I'm all for equality, but that's just it. It's like the author has such a chip on her shoulder about being a girl that she poor's it all into Becca, oh you thought Javid was special because he was chosen as a Dragan rider? Well Becca has now been chosen as a Dragon rider but her dragons the biggest and oldest around. your excited because Javid and the others are doing great with there battle skills after dedicating themselves to it with many instructors for the past two years? Well Becca is even faster and even deadlier after only training for less then a year with only her Father. Seriously? If this Author is trying to show that girls can do anything boys can do she's failing, all she's managed to do in my opinion is undercut her male characters and made Becca into an overpowered side character who doesn't contribute to the story. But let's not forget Javid is in love with her so all is ment to be forgiven...except it's not.
