About this listen
War. Betrayal. A rare man committed to his oath.
The world was destroyed nearly a millennium ago, yet conflicts continue to rage. In the events that lead up to the Second Duraani World War, Crinnan Jamiso, Centurion of Black Knight, fights his way through the overgrown ruins of an Ancient city. The world's mightiest powers pursue him and he needs to choose wisely when deciding who is friend and who is foe.
The reason he is hunted? Likely the dark secrets Crinnan has locked away, even from himself.

Book of the YEAR for me.
So a little about me, I am a veracious reader and listener, my main genres are Sci-Fi and Fantasy but I listen and read everything from Jeffery Archer to Stephen King.
I had been struggling the books recently after completing Robin Hobb realm of Elderlings series. When I saw Awakening at first I wasn't 100% sure if I should bother with it, there are elves, Aliens, Vampires, Technology all rolled into one was it going to be to much?
It certainly wasn't, Christian manages to create an immersive world which is done in a natural way without it being forced down your neck what's more impressive is how that in a relatively short book (When comparing to other world building authors such as Robin Hobb and Brandon Sanderson) he creates characters that are engaging and feel real and are not just there to garnish to an overarching world.
If you are interested in Sci-Fi or Fantasy you need to try this book and you will not be disappointed.

nice sci-fi/fantasy combo.
decently written book if somewhat vulgar at times, with a magic is technology idea in a society that fel went backward after being very high tech.
narration is okay, but sadly filled with background noises and a echo like quality.

An ambitious world
I recieved a review copy of this book. The narration is excellent, and the story presents a deep and fascinating world. It unfortunately suffers from its own ambition as the world building feels like it's competing with the story at times. However, the story is worth it and I am looking forward to seeing where the next book takes it.

A great story
At first I was a little bit unsure about this book as it seemed to take a while to get going but I am glad that I carried on because after 20mins I was hooked. The story is set in an interesting universe where you are constantly wondering what has happened to create this world. The characters are written well with the tale told using the point of view of 3-4 key people.
I was nervous about what the quality of the narration would be like when I saw that it was done by the author but he does a brilliant job giving distinctive voices for each character.
I was given a free copy of this book to provide a non biased review and i can honestly say that I cannot wait for the next installment and will be buying it when it is released.
