Summary

In this book, Richard Ayoade - actor, writer, director, and amateur dentist - reflects on his cinematic legacy as only he can: in conversation with himself. Over 10 brilliantly insightful and often erotic interviews, Ayoade examines Ayoade fully and without mercy, leading a breathless investigation into this once-in-a-generation visionary. They have called their book Ayoade on Ayoade: A Cinematic Odyssey. Take the journey, and your life will never be the same again.

Funny & frustrating

I can't work out what the story is. Moreover, I can't work out why it needed to be told.

A Curate's Egg

Mostly an enjoyably amusing listen. Occasionally laugh out loud funny, but a few chapters near the end of the book "proper", and at the beginning of the epilogues, were hard going, and better suited to the physical version. Which is quite ironic, for reasons that will become clear as you listen.

Hilarious and crazy.

This is a bizarre and hilarious book. It had me laughing out loud, sometimes from his surreal story, other times because of his strange mind.

The "Ayoadeverse" like marvel but better.

The terrance malick social media bit alone is just incredible, ayoade makes so many amazing references that make you realise he KNOWS his shit. He deals with such a depth of emotion and gives us a real insight into what it's like to be part of 'the movie biz'. Anyone looking to get into film needs this, in fact it should be on all university film study curriculums.

Ayoade was a good man

Looks like he had to crawl through two miles of shit to acquire the experiences necessary for this book and you'll be glad he did because this book is very, very funny. One thing though, do not ever think of making a film of your own.

It's ok

Found the first half of this pretty amusing, where he does a number of interviews with himself, second half not so great - turns into a lot of random, not particularly funny drivel / waffle, although it has its moments, and luckily its pretty short

Overall good-ish, but not great.

Ayoade on stuff I wish I was on

Ayoade¹⁷ really convinced me that Star Wars was written wrong, and where can I find the 1000+ hours of interview tapes?

Okay so I get it and I know it's ironic and stuff

This would be funny if it was shorter, but, after a while, once you get the whole idea it just repeats in the same way. Like the guy but too much of this is like eating too much cheese, great at first, then gets a bit samey and ultimately you start wondering why you bought so much cheese. Not that this book is cheesy. But he should make another film - his other two where good.
