The Left hates Jeff Bezos now, and he’s doubling down on The Washington Post not officially endorsing a presidential candidate.
The Washington Post’s decision not to endorse a presidential candidate led to resignations of three editorial board members and thousands of subscription cancellations, including from celebrity Mark Hamill.
Bezos’ choice may have been influenced by Harris’ proposed tax on billionaires, as he is a billionaire who pays little tax and has a personal interest in avoiding increased taxation.
The Post’s decision was criticized as potentially being motivated by a desire to avoid alienating right-leaning advertisers, as the newspaper is reportedly "bleeding cash" and relies heavily on ad revenue.
Bezos defended the non-endorsement by claiming that endorsements do not influence election outcomes and create a perception of bias and non-independence.
The decision was made internally without consulting either campaign and was implemented with "inadequate planning" and "not enough time before the election".
Bezos admitted he was "not paying attention" to the Post’s operations until it began losing money, suggesting a lack of oversight in the newspaper’s management.
