About this listen

Compelling story
This is a dark, yet compelling, story. Immersive, with flawed characters, some more redeemable than others. The narrator is excellent.

Set in Scotland but not a single Scottish accent for any of the numerous characters 🙄
Amazing how the small things can really irritate you!! Surely if you’re going to turn a book into an audio book you have the narrator use an accent for there the story is set? Of course not everyone who lives in Scotland is Scottish but gee, out of the number of characters vocalised, some would be! 😠
Caro’s character was hateful from almost the outset which makes an interesting subconscious (often contradictory) dilemma in terms of where sympathies lay!
As for the story … was a bit far fetched in parts … the huge coincidences which bring the threads together can also serve to make it less credible

Mediocre
Ok overall but very predictable. Alright if you just want a story on in the background whilst you’re doing other things. I wouldn’t be happy if I’d paid for it but as it was free I can’t complain and I did listen to it all so it wasn’t that bad.

Gripping
Owhhh this one had a tight grip on me! I love how it all interlinked & combined each others stories. I was on edge through out the last couple chapters and it’s left me wanting to know more of what happened after! Brilliantly done

Interesting concept
This was an interesting idea and I thought Ms Huber dealt with it sensitively. I felt it wasn't just about having or not having babies, but also what happens when you marry someone for the wrong reasons. That having money can't sort out everything that ails you. I very much connected with Julie and Sharon, but found Caro not very likeable. I didn't really get the whole bit about Caro being "accidentally drawn into the underworld of drugs". It wasn't like that at all and didn't, I felt, add anything to the story. Almost as if the publisher had said, "Let's spice it up with a drugs angle". It felt superfluous and pointless. Excellent narrating by Anna Parker-Naples, who had a lot of voice acting of numerous characters and turned in a top notch performance. Not my favourite book by Linda Huber, but she's a good writer so I'll be coming back for more.

Good but use a Scottish accent!
Set in Scotland but sounds more like London. Overall not bad. A bit predictable. 4/5

Interesting twists.
I liked the narrator’s voice , she read with emotion as the characters changed. It’s nice to hear inflection.

Drivel
The book was too far fetched. Don't these people know when to call the police. it was more than irritating. Too much backwards and forwards from Juli. I personally wanted to slap her. As for Caro, if she said, 'The no baby' again ....... The book should have been called The no baby. if it wasn't free I would have requested a refund.
