About this listen
Three years ago, Bear McKenna’s mother took off for parts unknown with her new boyfriend, leaving Bear to raise his six-year-old brother Tyson, aka the Kid. Somehow they’ve muddled through, but since he’s totally devoted to the Kid, Bear isn’t actually doing much living. With a few exceptions, he’s retreated from the world, and he’s mostly okay with that - until Otter comes home.
Otter is Bear’s best friend’s older brother, and as they’ve done for their whole lives, Bear and Otter crash and collide in ways neither expect. This time, though, there’s nowhere to run from the depth of emotion between them. Bear still believes his place is as the Kid’s guardian, but he can’t help thinking there could be something more for him in the world ... something or someone.

The BEST book series EVER
Read them. Read them all. And get lost in the characters who couldn’t be more real. These books tug on me in a way no others ever have. I just love them.

Absolute pleasure
I have yet to find a book by TJ Klune that I don't love. This is a totally absorbing book and makes you smile and cry. Brilliantly read by Sean Crisden.

Brilliantly beautiful
This is one of the best books I've read/listened to in a long time in any genre. The story is compelling not only clever and funny, touching too without being trite or too cliched. All the characters except for the mother [who was a bit evil villianish], are well rounded with their own foibles and idiosyncrasies, yet are grounded in a sense of reality. This was only improved by the genius that is Sean Cisden reading it.

A Wonderful Narrator for a Wonderful story....
If you could sum up Bear, Otter, and the Kid in three words, what would they be?
Funny, Sad, Fabulous.
Who was your favorite character and why?
Otter...I'm an Otter girl through and through. ;) It's just the thought of his sadness at Bear never being able to return his love...or so he thought.
What about Sean Crisden’s performance did you like?
I loved his ability to give each character a different voice.
Did you have an emotional reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
Both, there were lots of giggles and an equal number of tears too. TJ is an amazing writer, one of my absolute favourites!!

What a load of drivel
Honestly I had hoped a story written by a man about gay romance etc might be more real or authentic but could not be further from reality if it tried.
Tries way to hard and is clearly aimed at a female audience.

a touching story
This was an adorable love story. I have to say that listening to this emediatly after the "wolfsong", on of Klune's latest books, I did notice how much he developed as a writer. This was by no means poorly written, but I did feel proud of his progress.
This book could have been shorter, plotwise there wasn't much until the last couple of hours. But I did not mind too much and I will be continuing with the series, of course.
The narration was pleasant and the voice were distinctly different. The narrator also performed emotions very well.
The only thing I disliked in the book, and that comes to personal taste, was that this with the little devil that kept monologuing in Bear's head. I'm only mentioning in case someone felt the same so they dont feel like they're alone.
The book was touching and it did make me cry and once the climactic thing happened I started having a minor panic attack for the remaining 2 hours of the book until everything was resolved. I'm not saying this as a trigger warning, I'm just saying it to Express how invested I was to the characters ending up happy.
Bear did make some stupid decisions but it felt like there would be no conflict if he didnt. That's I feel like the only flaw I found in the book.
(If the writer ever sees this review, I'm sorry for everything I've said, Wolfsong was a phenomenal book and I have zero complaints about it and you are an actually freaking genius and it was a masterpiece and I love you.)
