About this listen
Brought to you by Penguin.
Can you fall in love with someone you've never seen?
Alice and Alfie are strangers. But they sleep next to each other every night.
Alfie Mack has been in hospital for months recovering from an accident. A new face on the ward is about as exciting as life gets for him right now, so when someone moves into the bed next to him, he's eager to make friends. But it quickly becomes clear that seeing his neighbour's face won't happen any time soon.
Alice Gunnersley has been badly burned and can't even look at herself yet, let alone allow anyone else to see her. Keeping the curtain around her bed firmly closed, it doesn't stop Alfie trying to get to know her. And gradually, as he slowly brings Alice out of her shell, might there even be potential for more?

Tender and heartwarming
Alfie and Alice both find themselves on the same rehabilitation ward after seperately experiencing severe trauma that has left them both physically and emotionally damaged.
Alfie is sociable and friendly.
Alice is aloof and desperate for nobody to see her.
In adjacent beds, but without being able to see each other. A tentative and occasionally stormy friendship begins to develop.
Each chapter is told by either Alfie or Alice.
This was such a sweet and tender story. Aswell as being very moving in places, it was also laugh out loud funny.
I loved the smaller characters in this book. Alfie’s mum inparticular, was just fabulous, but also relatable to as a mother.
The concept of this book was quite unique and believable.
This book is a slow burner, but that does fit with the circumstances of the characters.
I was glad to see an epilogue in this book. Alfie and Alice deserved their story to be tied up neatly.
I read/listened to this book on Audible. It was narrated by Nathalie Buscombe and Daniel Ings. A great job done by both.
A very special four stars from me.

Did I miss something?
Used a credit for this based on good reviews. Oh dear. Chocolate box nonsense. Really unrealistic Mills and boon fantasy. Did not enjoy at all.

Boring
Every chapter felt the same on this book, I've carried on listening whilst willing for it to end. The meaning of the book is sweet but it is just written and narrated in a very "blah" way.
