About this listen

When a dead body appears on a carnival float at the village show, Sophie Sayers knows that a case of murder in plain sight ought to be easy to solve. But why do none of the villagers agree? And what dark secrets are they hiding? As she tries to investigate the crime, it’s clear that someone is desperately trying to stop her from unmasking the killer. Can Sophie unearth the clues before anyone else comes to harm?

In Debbie Young’s Best Murder in Show, the Sophie Sayers’ Village Mysteries is back with a new adventure, promising the comforting feelings of community, warmth and humour.

A delightful cozy mystery!

So pleased to have discovered Sophie Sayers. I'm loving the charming English village vibe. Can't wait to find out more about Sophie and the other lovable, quirky characters. Glad there a re plenty more in the series.

Lovely series but technical issues

Well-written and engaging read. Soothing, pleasant timbre to the narrator, too. Unfortunately, this series seems to have technical issues. Both this book and Murder in the Manger have chapters which stop mid-sentence, then go back to repeat the start of the chapter. Similarly, chapter ends are cut off. I haven’t listened to others in the series, so can’t comment on whether there are technical issues throughout. Luckily, one can still get the gist even with these issues, so I may still try more in the series.
I very much enjoy Debbie Young’s writing, especially the St. Bride’s series (with which I’ve had no technical issues - hurrah!).

Perfect cosy crime!

I really enjoyed this! The sleepy village of Wendlebury Barrow is the perfect setting for a cosy mystery. The characters are all very well-drawn, and the narration is absolutely delightful. The plot has plenty of twists and turns, but it's not so complicated that you'll be kept up all night trying to figure it out. It's just the right amount of mystery to satisfy any cosy crime fan. If you're looking for a charming and light-hearted whodunit, this book is definitely worth a listen!

What a waste of a credit!

This is possibly one of the first books in a long time I wanted to give minus stars. It was a poor recording with repeats in the text and skipped pats. Felt very poorly edited and they were not characters they were caricatures and the awful attempt at accents left me cringing!
