About this listen
The classic tale of star-crossed lovers, Michael Singleton and Alena Andrick.
Book one in the award-winning contemporary fantasy trilogy about a tribe of shapeshifters in Northern Maine, USA.
Ten years after departing this world, Michael Singleton returns to the valley nestled along the Blackwater River. Michael suffers from a rare disease, the curse of his tribe. Because of this, Michael's soul will be damned to wander the Shadowlands, the domain of the Witch Goddess, for eternity. To escape this fate, Michael must unlock the spell that opens the portal to Corvus' kingdom, the Otherworld. It is a secret known to only one man, the powerful Guardian of the Dead.
Alena is the only child of the Guardian of the Dead. Her safe, predictable life is turned upside down when she meets Michael at the Solstice celebration. When Michael is accused of murdering the Captain of the Guard, Alena must choose between obeying her instincts or the laws of her people.

The story is refreshing and something a little bit different from the your usual paranormal, which I appreciate. The characters are likable and concise. I did find the story hard to understand though, somethings felt disjointed and I had to come back more than one time to see If I missed something.

🎧 Reviewed for Audiobook Obsession 🎧
I’m not sure if it’s the way this story is written or the narration, but I kept getting confused and a little lost in the plot of this story. I do however have a curiosity that wants to know where this all leads in the Children of Corvus series.

So much going on
I found myself a little lost with this book. I think there is so much groundwork to lay for a series that I got lost as to who was who and what was happening. Hopefully all the work is done in this first book and the next one will have more of a current storyline rather than setting the scene. Good narration.

Nice start to the series
I really enjoy shifter stories, this started off really well, there was a lot of information and detail, it did get a little confusing at times but I think that was because of the world and character building needed to be set for the next in the series.
Nicely paced, interesting and different storyline I am looking forward to the second in the series

Fascinating paranormal fantasy
I was fascinated by this paranormal fantasy which includes mystery, action and romance. LE Harrison’s description in Blackbird of the shapeshifter society with its history, religion, laws, traditions, customs and taboos is very detailed. That it exists in an alternate dimension within our world protected by a forcefield known as the Great Shield makes it more interesting. The characters are well developed. It took me a while to get used to Winona Owen’s accent so I had to listen to the first few chapters several times over. Once I had got the hang of it, I found her narration OK but was a bit disappointed that there was no differentiation between characters for the dialogue. However, the narration did not detract from the fact that this first book in the Children of Corvus trilogy is excellent so I did enjoy listening to it.

Blackbird!
I liked the book, the world, and the characters. It was a little confusing at times with all the past and present back and forth but I am looking forward to seeing where this series goes. 🎧AudiobookObsession
