Enough with the clichés, Dougie.

Douglas Brown was hailed as a hero when, twenty years before, he captured a serial terrorist in London. But his nightmares grew stronger and he transferred from the Met.to the Hong Kong police. The nightmares didn't go away. Then comes the message - the bomber is out of prison and the cat and mouse game begins.

A real treat comes from the very atmospheric depiction of Hong Kong: the writing is visual, the action fast paced and explosive, the situations terrifying and the implications of vulnerability even more frightening. This would make an excellent action film, with the dedicated but insecure policeman forced into a situation beyond his perceived ability to cope. Narrator Johnny Robinson does a fair job: a Brit with a hint of the north in his accent, his character voices were not overly differentiated but clear, nevertheless. However, he was prone to overemphasise some words unecessarily which, for this listener, made the reading too heavy, not then letting the inherent emotion of the text to come through.

My thanks to the rights holder by whom I was gifted a complementary copy of Blood Tide, via Audiobook Boom. Although quite short, the book was action packed and certainly didn't pull any punches. Through use of short, snappy sentences the impact was immediate with thrills of the type to conjure clear images in the head of the reader. As previously mentioned, I feel this could easily convert into an excellent action film.
Recommended anyone enjoying clever cat and mouse action scenarios.
