About this listen
It’s 1968. Bobby Kennedy and Martin Luther King are dead. The Mob, Howard Hughes and J. Edgar Hoover are in a struggle for America’s soul, drawing into their murderous conspiracies the damned and the soon to be damned. Wayne Tedrow, Jr: assassin, dope cooker, mouthpiece for all sides, loyal to none. Dwight Holly: Hoover’s enforcer and hellish conspirator in terrible crimes. As Hoover’s power wanes, his destiny lurches towards Richard Nixon and self-annihilation. Don Crutchfield: a kid, a nobody, a wheelman and a private detective who stumbles upon an ungodly conspiracy from which he and the country may never recover. All three men are drawn to women on the opposite side of the political and moral spectrum; all are compromised and ripe for destruction.

A masterpiece for the ages
This isn’t just crime fiction or historical fiction, this is true Literature. Ellroy will make you care about these characters in a way you wouldn’t think possible given how baaaaad some of them are. This book is dark, funny, and heartbreaking, as good Literature should be. Blood’s a Rover is the final instalment of a trilogy, and the listener is strongly advised to pick up the preceding volumes (American Tabloid and The Cold Six Thousand) first, but this title is the perfect conclusion to the series. Anyone with an interest in post-world war II American culture and history should read these books, and marvel at Ellroy’s new and reckless verisimilitude. The fantastic Jeff Harding merits the highest praise too, as the series truely comes to life in his performance. You might not think you need these books in your life, but believe me you do!

Best.
It doesn’t get any better than this. Greatest living crime writer, brilliantly read, twenty four hours long. Thanks.

Tour de force
Ellroy is one of my favourite authors to 'read' but to actually hear his words in your noggin adds a totally new dimension.
Well done to Jeff Harding who brought all these characters to life and made them all even more unforgettable for me, across all three books. Pete Bondurant and Both Wayne Tedrow's will echo in my mind along with all the others, forever.

Narration fits the story perfectly
Jeff Harding and James Ellroy are my favourite pairing on audible, both narrator and story ooze noir, the characters are perfect examples of love to hate, the conspiracy entertains contradicts and shocks, Ellroy is a master and transports you to another time captures the cruelty confusion and desperation of the time and people like few others, highly recommend!!

Brilliant
I have just finished this trilogy and can only repeat what I said about the previous 2 books - James Ellroy's writing is unique in its character and I just love it. The tale he tells in this trilogy is perhaps more fascinating to someone of my age who remembers the events covered and the personalities involved, however, anyone could be swept along with the pace and excitement of these books. For me though one person makes this audiobook a superb listen and that is the awesome Jeff Harding as narrator. He makes any book come alive for me and my wife and his ability to keep one interested through a very long book is sheer genius. We have listened to just about every Jeff Harding book on Audible that is over 10 hours long and eagerly await every new one. We have also tried to contact him to let him know just what pleasure he has brought us - but to no avail - so Jeff I hope you read reviews. I am now about to start on the third book in this trilogy and would recommend this series to everyone. It is gritty in places and perhaps a bit too graphic for some - but this is REAL. Full marks to author and narrator - thank you both.
Now starting the LA series with Black Dahlia - a totally different writing style but still as gritty and enjoyable as all the other Ellroy books I have 'read'
Once again the magic voice of Jeff Harding.
I cannot recommend author and Narrator enough.

Trilogy
One of the finest. Most thorough, most encapsulating and engaging trilogies I have ever had the pleasure to read. 5 stars. In fact 5 does not do this series justice. Anyone any recommendations which Ellroy to read next ?

Rambling
James Ellroy really thinks he has produced a masterpiece but he is deluded. I found it over bearing and repetitive. I can’t believe it took 25hrs to read through and yet it said very little. He delights in denigrating historical figures purely for shock purposes. Don’t buy this book.
