Summary

The unabridged, downloadable audiobook edition of Blue Monday, the first in a fantastic new series from the masters of psychological thrillers, Nicci French. Read by the actress Beth Chalmers.

Monday, the lowest point of the week. A day of dark impulses. A day to snatch a child from the streets...

The abduction of five-year-old Matthew Farraday provokes national outcry and a desperate police hunt. And when his face is splashed over the newspapers, psychotherapist Frieda Klein is left troubled: one of her patients has been relating dreams in which he has a hunger for a child. A child he can describe in perfect detail, a child the spitting image of Matthew.

Detective Chief Inspector Karlsson doesn't take Frieda's concerns seriously until a link emerges with an unsolved abduction twenty years ago and he summons Frieda to interview the victim's sister, hoping she can stir hidden memories. Before long, Frieda is at the centre of the race to track the kidnapper. But her race isn't physical. She must chase down the darkest paths of a psychopath's mind to find the answers to Matthew Farraday's whereabouts. And sometimes the mind is the deadliest place to lose yourself.

This book was Brilliant

I really enjoyed this book, the story was so clever. I was on the edge of my seat & I guessed the twist at the end. Narrative was ok but not my favourite.

Enjoyable enough

An easy listen but with no great surprises. Enjoyable enough to give the next in the series a go- often I find a series gets better the more you know the characters. The narration is good but maybe I've listened to too many books by the same narrator and the same range of voices.

the synopsis is completely different to the story.

synopsis says a boy . the story is about a girl!!! Maybe no difference. Will listen to the end, if only to hear that "the boy" had turned up!!

Excellent story, kept me listening

An interesting story with several strands, not the usual detective story at all.
I found the narration over harsh on my ear but tried to get used to it, a different style I suppose. I shall be looking for the next in this series with interest.

An irritating lead character

Perhaps the lead character would grow on me over the series of books but I just wasn't able to warm to her enough to want to try book 2. Doesn't have a mobile phone - yawn. Walks the streets of central London in the dead of night without even the concept of fear - really. Has some miraculous power to get people to do things for her at the drop of a hat - just too convenient. So, while the story is interesting I think Frieda is a turn off.

Really enjoyable. Plot twist

Saw most of the plot twists coming, apart from one, which left me open mouthed

Great listen

Would you consider the audio edition of Blue Monday to be better than the print version?

Loved the narrator - made the whole story come alive.

Who was your favorite character and why?

I liked Frieda, the main character. Although she could be irritating at times the narrator's voice made me forgive her limitations.

Which character – as performed by Beth Chalmers – was your favourite?

The small boy Matthew. Very disconcerting at times listening to his torment.

Did you have an emotional reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

I was on the edge of my seat wondering if the child would be found

Any additional comments?

Totally did not expect the twist!
